Hi twin mama's! My name is Rachael and this is my 4th pregnancy. I tend to be long winded so bear with me, and thanks in advance if you respond. I've had an "it's twins" feeling since the pregnancy test said positive. My oldest daughter tells me that there are two baby boys in my tummy, and drew a picture of her brothers. Honestly I will be disapointed if it's a singleton ;)

Here's my question, is my uterus "all stretched out and measuring bigger than my weeks because I've had three kids already" like the mama's on another non twins board think, or is it twins???

I am 16 weeks along and the ob here (I hate, but i'm moving in a couple weeks anyway) wont even check to see if you are growing until 20 weeks, anywho... I've been measuring my own fundal height, and everything I've read said that at 16 weeks your fundal height should be 16cm or midway between your pelvis and belly button. Well at 13 weeks I was measuring at about 16cm, at 14 weeeks it was about to 18cm, and now at 16 weeks I am measuring at 22cm. There is a definate bulge when I am laying down that wasn't there about 2-3 weeks ago I've grown so much, it takes up my whole body cavity and bumps out a good inch when laying down. I don't remember being this big until about 20-25 weeks with my last pregnancy which would be my third and one would think I'd have been stretched out then already right?!

What do you think??? I have an U/S on monday to confirm dates because at my first appointment the date they said I ovulated and the day I know I ovulated are a week apart (hubby is army and was gone until ovulation day)

Thanks so much!!! (and I'll cancel my membership if it is only one)

I have heard that after your first, you do tend to get bigger quicker and all. I don't think you will be 100% sure though until you have an u/s. Sorry, I don't have any other suggestions or advice, the twins are my first and only.

Good luck to you and let us know what the u/s shows!! :)

thanks for responding! I am going crazy waiting until the u/s normally I'd be wondering if it was a boy or a girl, but I am going insane wondering if it's twins!! We have 3 girls already so I should be wondering if we're going to get our boy...

I was the same size at 20 weeks with my singleton(after the twins) than I actually was for the twins, so it could be that.

    Update us after your ultrasound!

:D Just because you so want it to be twins, I hope it is! I do think some people get bigger with each pregnancy, but there is something to intuition as well. Can't wait to find out if it is or not.

I agree.. This is my 8th pregnancy and I have measured big with my last 4. Up to 6 cm bigger then gestation with a couple of my singletons. But.. I also had a twin intuition at the beginning of this pregnancy so its possible.

I have always wanted twins.. some people don't understand that.. but I know some people do.. its a wonderful experience. I really hope since you want twins.. that you get your twins.. if not this time.. then some day..

I didn't measure bigger until 17 weeks. And now I'm 10cm larger at 35 weeks. Up until then, the Dr. only heard one heartbeat (probably wasn't even looking for another one). Then at 19 weeks, I had a pain in my upper right rib area. I was sent to u/s to check on my gall bladder and appendix. It was then that we discovered baby #2. This is my fifth pregnancy. I had two people come up to me even before I was pregnant and told me I would have twins next. Also I had one twin pregnancy dream, but I saw and boy and a girl. I am having two boys. Well keep us posted on what you find out.

I agree with the PP that I hope it IS twins because you are so hopeful!

Your post sounds just like me when I was 16 weeks with my twins! Mine were my fourth pregnancy, too (3 live births one MC), and I just knew I was bigger. Doctor said exactly the same thing to me (his actual words were, 'It's your fourth pregnancy what do you expect? Every woman thinks she is havng twins, but she's really just big" hmmm, thanks doc! <_< )

At 16 weeks I was only measuring 19 (doctor's measurement) and he didn't think it was odd.

THe day I reached 20 weeks, I asked two twin moms in my neighborhood if they were as big as I was at 20 weeks. They BOTH snorted and said they were HUGE and there was no way I was carrying twins. However, I knew I was "huge" for me.

That night my water broke and I wound up spending the next 12 weeks on a high risk OB ward...but my beautiful boys were born healthy at 32+ weeks so it was all worthwhile!

My advice? Keep your thoughts to yourself if people are dismissing your suspicions, but read up on twin pregnancy and do everything it suggests for a healthy twin pregnancy until you know one way or the other for certain. Most important of all, drink PLENTY OF WATER! MAke sure you drink a full glass of water every waking hour. All pregnant women need plenty of water, but in a twin pregnancy it is crucial. Your uterus is stressed by the unaccustomed occupancy rate and stress makes premature contractions more likely, as well as other complications. Staying hydrated will ensure that your uterus has ideal conditions to deal with the extra stress. THe fact that you've had 3 successful pregnancies already will work in your favor. Your body knows what to do. JUst don't stress it (as I did) by getting dehydrated without realising it.

Good luck! I hope you will be welcoming twins in about 20 more weeks!!

P.S. Even your baby's (babies' ?) conception sounds like mine! My hubby was away on business when doc claimed I must have ovulated, but of course I know for sure it had to be when he was home (and I had twinges which confirmed this later ovulation date, too. I was very aware because we were trying not to conceive at just that time because we were in the middle of an international move - but hey, sometimes you just are meant to have a wonderful thing happen in your life! LOL)!

I am going out on a limb here and I am going to predict twin boys for you!! :itwins_boys:

    Hi Rachel,

The twins were 4 and 5 for me, so our stories are somewhat similar(maybe?). I had 2 u/s for dating and heartbeat, that only showed one baby. One at 7 and one at 11 weeks.

I started noticing around 12-14 weeks, that I was getting really big, really fast, but also blamed it on the number of pregnancies. At 16 weeks, I was measuring 20, and my OB jokingly said, 'well, maybe it's twins?' By 20 weeks, my uterus was palpable at my breastbone, although I didn't measure at that point. I went in for my 21 week routine growth scan, and that is where we saw two!

A couple of weeks before that, I had also noticed a ton of movement, both high and low, so I was definitely suspicious, and not shocked when I found out there were two. Although my husband's reaction was a different story, despite my hints!

Best of luck! And of course let us know either way!

I'm loving everyone else's stories!! I have to admit, that mama-instinct is pretty cool, so in your case, I hope you get the twins you want!! I had suspicions from the time we conceived --- it was the first time ever that i ovulated twice (one day after the next) and so i told my doctor that when i first saw him at 5 weeks (I had some spotting, which scared me b/c i'd just had a chemical pregnancy)..... anyway we did betas and progesterone and they were both high, so i really started getting my hopes up (still thinking, no i'm not lucky enough for it to happen to me!) -- i told everyone i knew that there was a possibility it could be twins and sure enough at 7 weeks we saw 2 babies and 2 heartbeats!!

As for size, well, i have 3 boys, all of which i got very big with..... by the end i looked as big as some twin mamas (well, almost ;) )... and with my second and third i did show earlier --- but NOTHING like this pregnancy!! Like someone else said, i was wearing maternity pants at 9 weeks and right now at 13 1/2 weeks i look about 20 weeks pg!!! I think we all know our bodies pretty well by the time we've gone through pregnancy and this is seriously like nothing i have ever experienced before -- the entire pg so far has been worlds different than the ones with my boys. Anyway, good luck --- i hope you have a couple of healthy beans in there --- keep us posted!

I also had a feeling that it was twins this time even though I really had no reason to believe that it was. We did take femara, but my OB swore up and down (and still does) that femara has almost zero chance of twins....anyway ;) I started feeling things early on that reminded me of my previous pregnancy (twins) like stretching in my uterus at 5 weeks....extreme nausea that lasts 24/7....a BFP at 9DPO and by the color of the line, I could've probably gotten it on 7DPO if I had taken one that early.....then at my first appointment at 7w2d my OB said my uterus felt like it was more like 12 weeks and I pretty much knew it then....two days later the US confirmed it ;)

I hope you get what you are wanting!! :)

I was definitely bigger with the twins than I was with the singletons. It is too bad your OB wouldn't do an early scan for you. Mine routinely checks for viability and we found out it was twins at 9 weeks! No matter what, congratulations! :D

I wanted to say thanks to everyone for your encouraging responses, my U/S is tomorrow afternoon, and I am so excited and nervous. I tell ya if it isn't twins this kid is huge ;) It's already getting in my way of bending, and sitting I'm feeling squished under my ribs, I feel huge at moments, and then I feel small, it's wierd.

thought I'd add a pic ;) I've always been compact in how I carry, but this time I am carrying totally differently imo.

My DS was originally a fraternal twin (lost @ 9w). With this pregnancy it was completely different. We seen a gestational sac with two fetal poles, yolk sacs, but no heartbeats at 5w6d. Four days later, we saw both heartbeats measuring perfectly. So we knew quite early. With my son, we were shocked with twins. With this pregnancy, I just "knew" it was twins. However, the shock was identical twins. I wasn't expecting that. LOL

The adage that each pregnancy is different with each person even the same person totally rings true. I was told that I would show earlier since it was my second time around and especially since it was twins, but I don't look as pregnant now as I did with my DS at this time. It's actually about the same for now. Perhaps as I get farther along, the fundal height will begin to widen. I also think the way they are laying has some effect on the measurements. At my 22w appointment, I measured 26w. Not a huge jump and what's often expected for twins.

So basically my point was, without the early u/s, my pregnancy continued as a normal singleton pregnancy until just recently with the jump in measurements. Good luck!!

Hi Mama's! Well it's not twins :( unless a second baby in there is hiding really well! The baby in there is looking good, and the right size for dates, but they couldn't tell me if it was a boy or a girl, she looked quite a bit, and couldn't tell.

My oldest daughter is disapointed there isn't a second baby too, she really thought there was. She looked at the pictures and said where's the picture of the other baby. So unless there is a baby hiding, it's just one. I am very disapointed, sniff.
