Could diaper rash cause this?

Bea has has some diaper rash going on, I'm starting to think it might be a yeast infection. She has also been saying "Hurt" when I wipe her bottom. Today when I was changing her diaper, her vaginal area looked red. I actually freaked at first and thought maybe it was blood, but I touched a tissue to it, and nothing was on the tissue. I think it's just very red and irritated. She did not like me investigating what was going on down there. Could she be irritated from the diaper rash? She does stick her hand down there sometimes when she's wet, maybe she's been scratching at it? It was alarming to see, just trying to figure out what it is.

Mine have at times even bleed from severe diaper rash. Yeast rash usually has some white spots with it but if you've tried treating it with diaper rash cream and it didn't work, I'd try some yeast cream if you have it(nystatin).

Both Nolan and Meghan had a horrible rash that wouldn't clear up when we were on vacation. I tried the diaper rash lotion, but it wasn't doing anything. So I got Lotrimin and it cleared right up. It's possible that it is a yeast infection.

Could just be diaper rash. I would try something really good like Triple Paste on it and if it doesn't clear up in a few days, usually Triple Paste clears a rash up in a day or two, then I would call the ped.

If regular diaper cream isn't helping then it could be a yeast infection. Have you been putting diaper cream on her vaginal area?

I put it on the outer area (vulva? how pathetic, I don't even know for sure what everything's called!) The part that is regular skin. But it does sometimes get "in there", I guess it just migrates. Maybe that is causing irritation. In the past when diaper rash hasn't cleared up in a few days, I'll put some Lotrimin (or generic) on it and then it goes away. I'll see what it looks like tomorrow and try that. If it's not better, especially the redness on the inside, I'll call the ped.

Yeah, if the cream is getting onto the affected area and it still isn't any better than I bet it is a yeast infection. Try the other cream and see if it improves. Also, try giving her some yofurt tomorrow if she like it. That can help clear up yeast infections too.

nystatin and desitin is what my dr had compounded for me and it worked like a charm when we had a yeasty diaper rash --

be careful that she doesn't migrate the yeast to her mouth and get thrush. that's a pain

I put Lotrimin on it this morning, and by the afternoon it already looked better. Thank you all for your help!

One of my girls had a BBBAAADDDDDDDDD diaper rash. Itook her to the ped. and everything. It took about 5-6 weeks to really go away. My gut tells me that a lot of it was being caused by sweat. IT has been pretty hot here. I started laying off the ointments, not applying it really think, letting it air dry and occasionally I even skipped the ointment and it finally cleared up. I was really starting to worry. I even treated it as yeast with the nystatin and that didn't help.
    Good luck!

nyastin and biactin work as a good combo for yeast/diaperrash combo. you can put desitin over them as a barrier too if you prefer. That's what my doc had me do at one point.

If Lotrimin helped, it's a yeast infection. Joy gets those often, since she pees so much at night. I hope she feels better soon. Keep putting the Lotrimin on for a few days, even after it looks better. The pesky infection can stay for a while...
