We have these and are happy with them. I have a subscription to Consumer Reports online and they are the seats recommended by them as a "best buy". You can't beat the price. I got ours on Albee.com and got the navy blue plaid ones which were on sale for $10 cheaper than the more elaborately designed ones (flowers, prettier colors, etc). I think I paid about $100 for both of them.

I don't know what to compare them to, though. I just went by what CR suggested (which is what I have done with most of the "big ticket" baby items we've bought). The kids seem happy enough in them. I guess my only complaint would be that the kids are sitting up straighter in them so when they fall asleep their heads fall forward more. We have been using those head support things because of this. I assume this is the same with all convertibles though? (my twins are 10 months old btw - so it's not an issue of them not being able to control their head/neck. It's simply a sleep thing)

Ditto, exactly. Ours are great. Got them at Walmart for about $100 total. Been in them about 6 months, no complaints other than heads falling forward to sleep, but it seems to be the nature of the "big kid" carseats.

we had/have one for izzy...he's not still in it, but we haven't gotten rid of it...i *think* it is still good to use..with all the car seat debate i've been having lately, i've been thinking about picking up a 2nd one in pink for abbey and just using those again..jack and abbey are getting to the point where they are almost too big lengthwise (not weight, their gracos go to 25 or 30 pounds)for their infant seats...if it is outdated (carseats expire in 5 years from manufacture date, which is stamped in the plastic of the seat) it won't be a huge hardship to get 2 of them, and with jason's discount they'll cost even less...honestly, every car seat HAS to be safe to a point, it's required by law...some are *safer*, but so are some cars, so there you go...honestly, i think it's what can fit in your budget, and these seats are great back facing and forward, and a good price too...

wanted to add that even with my older kids that when they fall asleep in the van their heads fall forward, it's part of sitting upright i think...as far as i know there is no way to really get around that...
