cord blood storage?

I'm thinking about all the little things that need to be dealt with related to delivery. One of them is cord blood registry. With technology and medicine advancing everyday, i guess there's a reason to consider doing this. But with twins, the cost doubles. What do you think?

By the way, I have stored my son's cord blood..now debating for the twins.

 

If I remember correctly, I was told that we could not do it because it was twins. We were not planning on doing it. It was just something the doctor told me at one of the visits I think.

 

We were told something similar even though we didn't plan to store it. We tried to donate it but wouldn't even take it as a donation. But that was almost 6 years ago

 

I was told you can definitely do it with twins (fraternal, I don't know about identical), and in fact it's a good idea, because sibling matches are more common and can treat more disease. You probably don't need to bank both though, because you already have one in the bank. And the cost isn't double, it's more like $1000 more (still expensive though)

 

Thanks for all your replies. Yes. I was told it can be done as well. Initialization fee is 1000 more but annual storage is double for banking both. I probably will end up banking both (yes, it's VERY expensive).

 

I really think it's a gimmick to make money off scared parents. Thousands of dollars for an extremely extremely remote chance that you will one day need and be able to use the cord blood. We didn't do it, but I know it brings a lot of people comfort.

 

We did not bank for any of our four children. Our pediatrician is not a fan and thinks it's gimmicky as well.
