Hi girls, popping in from the expecting forum again! I want to register for a humidifier. Is is recommended to use cool mist or warm mist for babies? thanks in advance!!!

My understanding is cool because warm can grow bacteria and burn babies. Either way, keep it away from babies (obviously) and you have to wash it out daily.

My doctor always recommended cool mist & said to change the water and clean out the humidifier often.

My doctor always recommended cool mist. But my kids would always get worse when we used it, so I use a warm mist, which works better for us.

My kids always did better with cool mist, too. They sell a cartridge, called protec, to put in the tank to keep the water fresh a little longer if your LO uses it alot... my boy had an extremely dry nose the first few months and it was a real lifesaver. The warm mist would have had the room feeling like a jungle and if I used it every night I think I would have had mold growing in the room.

Our pediatrician recommended cool mist. It works well for our household. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

We have both and the cool mist does a better job getting the air moist quickly as well as being safer. The only disadvantage is that you can't use the inhalant liquid but there's always Vick's vapor rub if you want menthol.
