We got convertible cribs, thinking when we were ready they would turn into toddler beds. Now that we're kind of tossing the idea around of switching them, I'm looking at their cribs & wondering how in the world it's possible?? I can't remember the name of the cribs we got, so I can't look online. And I'm hoping dh saved instructions somewhere.......though I highly doubt it.......I know there's some kind of extra bars or wooden slats when you convert them. Does anyone have a picture of what they look like when you're done? All the ones I've seen look like you basically take the front off the crib & that's supposed to be your "toddler bed". Honestly, I think it looks dumb. My kids aren't going to fall for "this is a big kid bed" if that's how it really looks.

Yep that's how it looks. Basically it's the crib without the front. We also opted not to use ours and switched to full size beds.

I agree. Mine convert but I think it will look silly. Functional yes, but not so much a tool to transition. So if I go to toddler beds and not big ones straight from the crib, we'll probably buy the toddler beds and not convert. They are not that expensive and it will add the wow factor

If I were to convert the cribs, I think they would just think, "Cool, mom forgot to put the side up!". LOL

Ours look similar to the first picture here. It does also convert to a full size bed. Meghan didn't really have any issues with it when we converted it. She did ask for her crib back for a couple of days. Nolan got his cousin's race car bed.

That's how ours were, I actually think it made the transition easier, because it was still their bed. We never had issues with them getting out of bed (they did fall out a couple times, but it didn't even wake them up!)

Does yours have some sort of conversion kit you have to buy? When we were looking at cribs, the convertible one we really liked had a kit you had to buy to make it into a toddler bed. We figured with the extra cost of the crib, and the cost of the kit, it was much cheaper to buy a regular crib and toddler bed seperately! Or wait and skip to twin beds. (The toddler beds are so cute though! I'm sure the skip to twin beds won't happen!)

Ours has a conversion kit for making into a double bed, then you just have to buy rails and a matress...for the toddler bed conversion we just had to take off the crib rail (the side that goes up and down)...it was very easy.
