Converted the cribs

I had been holding off on converting the cribs because the girls haven't complained and don't climb out, but my DH decided that he was ready for them to be in the "big girl" beds so I told him fine, just do it. He did it Saturday before bed and it was like no big deal...they were both excited to have their new beds (even though it's their same cribs just without that one side and a new side rail) and slept fine in it. They woke up a little earlier than normal, but nothing much and napped okay in them as well. They aren't climbing in and out of them when they wake up because we told them that wasn't allowed. Is this just a honeymoon period? Am I in store for them to start wreaking havoc or did I just luck out?

Congratulations. We converted one and bought a toddler bed for ours way too soon (in my opinion). Anyhow, it sounds like the girls are doing great. It might be luck but it sounds like everything might continue to go well. Best of luck and I hope they enjoy their beds. My kids don't listen to us about getting in and out of the bed but they only do it when they wake up in the morning so it is not too bad.

Thanks. I'm just worried that once they realize how much easier it is to climb in and out of the beds, they will start to take advantage of it and move around. They don't have a lot of space to get into too much, but I have heard those horror stories about kids having their dressers fall on them from playing on them. Very scary.

Interestingly enough, my kids have never pulled their dresser over or even gone in their drawers. However, we do have the little bins from Target and they have thrown their onesies and socks all over the place. As for space, that is about the only upside I can think of about living in a townhouse. There is not enough space to put much in their room. You could always fasten the dressers to the wall or someone else mentioned placing them in the closet (if there is space in there). Hope everything else is going well.

Glad to hear that it went well! I don't forsee big problems when we switch our girls (around 2.5 years - in Nov/Dec) except for them getting up a bit earlier. They usually will play in their cribs for 30 monutes or so while I get ready and now they won't be able to be contained once they are in beds...lol! I hope it continues to go well for you!

We have a townhouse too...barely enough space in their room to fit the cribs, dresser, book shelf and chair. The dresser is against the window so we can't fasten it to the wall...no other way to arrange the room. I guess I just have to hope they continue to listen...

m - I don't think that was mean. I think you need to firm to let them knows the rules and consequences so they stick with it. good for you. congrats on a good night.
