It has been three years since my last child and I am just wondering if I'm just going crazy. I have been having what feels like contractions for the last two to three days and I'm kind of worried. I am only 17 weeks pregnant, and I don't remember having contractions or braxton hicks until I was 8 to 9 months pregnant. If this is or has happened to any one else please let me know and if you have any advice or information please let me know. Thank you all! :umm:

I have had them on and off since I was about 16 weeks. My OB said it was normal to have them start earlier with twins. I have actually been having some issues my self the last two days. The after hours OB said to drink a lot of water and lay down. If it is worrysome I would call your dr. and get checked out. It is better than worrying. I worry all the time, although I called I still worry as they come when I stand up. I would take it easy, make sure you drink a lot of water, and call if they are not going away or sooner if you are really concerned. Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much for the advice! I have an appt. on tuesday so I'm going to discuss it with her than, but if they get worst than I am going to give her a call. I rather be safe than sorry. I thought I was losing my mind for a minute.lol

I agree, if worried, call. Better to be safe than sorry,. Good change they are braxton hicks. I never had them with my two singleton pregnancies, started having them early on with this one and still having them. From what my doc said and what I have read, normal for them to start sooner with twins.

I started having Braxton Hicks around that time. I drink insane amounts of water. That really does seem to help. I've had a very easy pregnancy. My body just lets me know when it's time to take it easy.

My first advice is ALWAYS call - no question is ever too small or dumb when it comes to your babies.

    but...
I am telling you a twin pregnancy is different than a singleton pregnancy! I thought I was a pregnancy expert having been there done that 3 other times and had an ectopic one also. well, my twin pregnancy was a whole new ballgame!! I also had
contractions with the girls very early. You should DRINK ,DRINK , DRINK a ton of water each day - and I drank Boost extra protien drinks also. try to take it easy as much as possible!! My doctor told me that our bodies don't know how far along we are - so when you are carrying two - there of course is more in there hence your body thinks you are farther along so you should take it easy as if you were. water and taking it easy were my keys to less contractions . They didn't stop but my doctor knew I was having them and checked me out more - in my case they never did anything to my cervix and didn't completely stop until my c-section.

CONGRATULATIONS on your twins! your journey to get them here is just the beginning of such an amazing thing I just can't even put into words how neat it is to have twins! (yes it's not all easy, but SO worth it!) Cherish every little flutter before you know it you will blink your eyes and they will be 1 year old!

I have had contractions from about 16 weeks or so. Just a few a day, but around 21 weeks, I started getting several a day (but still nothing regular or very consistent). I asked the dr about it at my 22 week checkup and she said it was completely normal, especially if you consider this is a twin pregnancy and this is my 4th pregnancy! She said she would be surprised if I wasn't feeling anything. I try to take it easy though as my body sometimes kicks in to contraction mode when I do too much. As everyone else stated, drink lots of water and get as much rest as you can! Good luck!!!

Yes for sure play it safe and call if you're worried. On Tuesday your OB may give you a guide as to when you should come in to L and D. I started having contractions around 25 weeks and was absolutely freaked by it. I was having up to 8 an hour. I've continued to have them, more in the mornings and at night, but with no regular pattern. And my cervix hasn't changed at all so therefore I haven't been considered to be in preterm labor. I was told at first to call if I had more than 6 in an hour. Then I was told to lie down, drink water, and call if I had 6 or more per hour for two hours in a row. It's nice to have something to go by. The doctor at L and D told me that my uterus was having to grow more quickly than normal and probably wasn't really enjoying it, I've heard some people's doctors say their uterus is irritable. Anyway, if you have them with any regularity they will most likely look at your cervix (via ultrasound) and give you an FFN test to give a sense of whether you're likely to go into labor in the next couple of weeks. Hang in there and when in doubt, call :)

Make sure your doctor checks to see if the contractions are affecting your cervix at all. They should do T/V U/S to measure your cervix length. My early contractions (which I did not feel) affected my cervix.
