I'm just 13 weeks along today and I was hospitalized on Monday through Tuesday morning for hyperemesis and dehydration. THe week prior to going into the hospital I knew I was having quite a bit of cramping and contractions and I know it's from dehydration. My first two sons were both early and with my second one I started having a lot of contractions at 18 weeks. So, I know the drill about keeping well hydrated.

Anyways, I got home yesterday late morning and I was actually able to keep some fluids down throughout the day, though still nothing to eat. Last night while I was laying in bed, I know I felt at least 3-4 contractions in an hour. It seems like with all of the fluid that the hospital pushed down me via IV along with the fact that I was able to get some fluid down at home I shouldn't be contracting because of dehydration. I have a doctor apt tomorrow with another doctor and I"m deffinately going to ask about it, but I didn't know if anyone had any input, experience, or advice? I've hardly been able to keep anything down today... maybe 3oz of sprite so far. This pregnancy is making me so very nervous.

No it's not really normal at 13 weeks to be having contractions. Your doc might want to put you on some meds for contraction control. I started having contractions at 18 weeks, ended up being put on meds at 24 weeks. Try and get lots of rest, drink as much as you can. I know you are already trying. Lay on your left side. Good luck

 I agree, it's not normal to have contractions at 13 weeks. Definitely let your OB know and take it easy as much as you can.

Actually my dr told me it IS normal. He said the term BH contractions was coined SO many years ago and made people panic and think they were going to go into pre term labor. He told me contractions can start as early as 6 weeks and that is OK as long as they are not TRUE labor contractions (painful, closer in timing, don't go away, etc)

I found this from Baby Center

    What are Braxton Hicks contractions?
Braxton Hicks contractions are sporadic uterine contractions that start about 6 weeks into your pregnancy, although you won't be able to feel them that early. You probably won't start to notice them until sometime after mid-pregnancy, if you notice them at all. (Some women don't.) They get their name from John Braxton Hicks, an English doctor who first described them in 1872.

I don't know if being able to feel them is normal at all, but at both my 9 week ultrasound and my 12 week ultrasound the tech said that I was having BH contractions, and that it was normal... So according to her having them is normal, but I know nothing about feeling them. I can't feel them that I know of.

I would definitely ask your doctor though. Good luck!
