I had my first contractions on Friday. i had subbed in KG all day so I wasn't too suprised. But yesterday I had a ton. I had like 3 in 45 min and called my OB and talked to the nurse. She didn't seem too concerned but I sure was. She said to go to L & D if I had them 5 min apart, more than 5 an hour, or having any discharge. I alerady knew that. After I got off the phone I had 4 mroe, 10 min apart. I had started drinking lots of water as I knew i hadn't drunk enough all day and then they slowed down. I had 3 more over the next hour and then 2 more the following 1/2 hr. By this time it was 8:30. I had a few more after getting in bed. I had also drank 32 oz of water 4 times from 3 until 9 so I know I swas hydrated and trying to stop the contractions. I think I am going to call my dr today and try to talk to him. I had PTL last time but not until 30 weeks. It is freaking me out as if something happens my daughters will not survive, it is way too early. I am going to try to drink lot of water and rest today. Wish me luck.

I never know if they are BH or real(or even medically what the difference is or how I can tell at home) I just know last time with 4 ER trips they were all real and gave me a shot each time to stop them.

    Melissa, I'm so sorry.

It sounds like you know what you have to do- no more subbing for Kindergarten. :acute: Please rest and take care of yourself.

I started having contractions at 18 weeks - that required 2 shots of Terbutaline (??) and about 6 hours in the ER before they sent me home. And, at 18 weeks the nurse was SHOCKED that I was even registering contractions on the monitor, and as strong as they were.

4 weeks ad 6 trips later, I was put on Bedrest for the remainder of the pregnancy - and lasted all the way until 36 weeks. I do not have one doubt in my mind that if I had kept working, the girls would have been born WAAAY ealier than they were. My cervix was thinning at 28 weeks and by 30 weeks I was 1 cm dilated. a week later I was 3 cm dilated and stayed that way until I delivered.

Good luck, but I would err on the side of caution and stop working if this trend continues.

I don't post here anymore, only on the older forums, but wanted too add something. My PTL started at 20 weeks with the twins. If you've already have PTL then you obviously know the routine. Please take it easy. I'm surprise your OB with your history of PTL didn't want to see you! That would concern me. Hopefully they will do a cervix check so you'll know if they are thinning the cervix already. They only gave me terb at 20 wks. But is was Mag. at 27 wks on the 2nd hospital trip. I'm just glad they weren't born that early. I hope you can keep them in a good long time. :)

I started with contractions (BH I think) at 16 weeks. They had me come in right away and checked for a yeast infection and a uti both can cause contractions. When I showed a shortening cervix as 26 weeks I was put on Procardia to keep contractions from happening (I wold ask your DR about that) I would insist on an ultrasound to see if your cervix is shortening at all. At this point you could be a candidate for a cerclage if needed. I hope you can get into your OB otherwise go straight to L & D or the ER. I hope all is well... keep us posted.

I did get into the peri yesterday and all looks good. He doesn't think they were actual contractions and cervix looks great. I go back in 10 days to check on things. He did say my placentia previa is over my cervix ( the last u/s tech said it was just beside) so they will watch that.

I was on terbutaline with my last pregnancy and he said that is a big no-no for twins. as it can cause problems with the mother. I had the shot at the ER like 4 times and orals for 6 weeks. He said I was lucky I didn't ahve any problems with it. Just an FYI for anyone out there.
