I am one of those first time moms and I know this question may be foolish but.... Last night I was so uncomfortable with what I think is gas pain. Every time I woke up last night I was in pain. This morning it is till continuing. It is painful and the most uncomfortable I have felt in a while. I have a ton of pelvic pressure but baby A is breech and I do feel her moving around down there. Is this just gas with round ligament pain or am I having contractions?

Hmm, it is consistent? Can you time how far apart you feel this?

When I had strong contractions, I don't remember feeling pain. Maybe discomfort and breathlessness, but not pain.

Where is the pain? Does it come and go?

If it continues, I would call maybe just to be safe.

I felt it three times in a row at about 7 minutes apart. They probably each lasted for about a minute. I have not really felt anything since. It is hard to pin point exactly where the pain is.

    Sounds like a contraction.

Drink a big glass of water and lay down on your side. Relax. And keep a clock near by. If you have four in an hour, call your doctor, even if they are inconsistent.

Yeah, I agree with Kate. It never hurts to call to be sure.

I had pain with contractions - I'd call, just to be sure.

    Update us when you can!

After taking PP advice I laid on my side and my discomfort and pain went away. I am curious to see if it happens again this evening but I have been taking it really easy today. Thank you for everyones advice!

Not to worry you but tell your doc about this at your next appt. I thought I had gas a week or so ago, turns out it was contractions. I didn't feel it consistently either but the NST showed 3-8 minute contractions. I am also a first time mom and this contraction things escapes me. I just don't feel tem like others describe.

LOL I feel like a FTM, because my DD is almost 6 and I can't remember much of the pregnancy being as weird and hard as this one. For me, sometimes I feel like my abdomincal muscles or uterus is tightening and not letting go when I've overexerted myself and the best thing for that was to lay down for an hour and down 1/2 gallon water. It should subside, but if it doesn't - I'd make a call too.

I also deal with a lot of lower back and hip pain, sciatic stuff is a daily thing now. I thought I was going to go nuts when it was combined with gas cramps. I still lay down because the pain radiates in the front an I am not sure what is going on. But as long as my uterus is not contracting (it feels like an abdominal muscle cramp or charlie horse that has tightened and it won't let go) and I've just started my day and the pain isn't too bad in the front, I go for a small walk - which if it's gas, walking helps move your bowels and get it out.... but if in doubt, lay down and drink your water. Dehydration is a BIG cause of preterm labor, you need to down at least 1 gallon a day.

But if you do decide to go for a short walk and you feel your uterus contracting, or any pain on top of what was going on - stop immediately, lay down and drink that water. Call your dr. too... it's always better to err than to be in trouble.
