I'm guessing your doctor is wondering if you're feeling Braxton Hicks contractions - these are contractions that your uterus does throughout your pregnancy (starting around 7 weeks or so) to "tone" itself for labour. My Braxton Hicks contractions feel like a tightening across my lower abdomen - I usually notice them because they often come with a sudden & intense need to go pee. :pardon: In fact, a full bladder often aggravates & increases the number of Braxton Hicks contractions you'll notice. While they can feel odd & uncomfortable, they're rarely painful where as labour contractions are often painful. Here's a good article that explains the difference between Braxton Hicks & labour contractions. Last, but not least, I would just ask your doc next time you're in what s/he meant when asking about contractions - then you'll know what to look out for.

I didn't have any BH while pregnant with DD but then I've been told by my OB that quite often some women don't even feel it and/or recognise it for what it is.

With this pregnancy (I'm also expecting ID girls :), I've had BH quite often and sometimes they have been painful... it's felt like a tightening of my belly in certain places... I found that a warm shower has helped.

When I went into labour with DD, I felt a sharp kick and then contractions started quite hard and painful although my water didn't break. But every woman is different and if you are worried at all, give your care provider a call, it doesn't hurt to talk to someone about it who can monitor you and it relieves your mind if you are worried.

For me, I've worried so much with this pregnancy especially as they are mono-di twins and the associated risks of sharing a placenta.

How often are your appointments and ultrasounds? Make a list of all your questions to ask at the next appointment - doesn't matter how trivial it might sound if it helps to ease your mind.

Congrats Vesna, looking forward to reading more of your journey!
