Contracting every 2-6 minutes

Well, I went to L&D around 4pm today. I was contracting about every 5 minutes when I went. They checked my cervix (closed) and gave me terbutaline. They slowed down a little and then came back every 2-6 minutes. So they checked my cervix again and it's still closed. They told me to come back if I start bleeding, my water breaks or the baby stops moving. So I guess the contractions don't count! That's my little adventure for today. I see the OB tomorrow. :)

    UPDATE:

I went to the OB today. I am a little bit dilated, but nothing to get too excited about! He said that I was right to go to L&D b/c those contractions would have made some dilate, just not me! I'm not a dilator ;) So I am still contracting and just waiting for something to change. Of course I could go on this way for a while!

Thanks for checking on me :)

Yeah they really don't count unless they are changing your cervix. If it is closed, then your not progressing....no point in staying. If they continue through the night, then go back or wait til your appt tomorrow.

Hope it is soon for you!

This is why I never agreed with the general description of braxton hicks ctx....my bh ctx felt an awful lot like the real thing... we're talking pain...not just a little discomfort...especially towards the end... So IMHO the ONLY difference between "real" ctx and "practice" ones is whether or not your cervix is opening.... I hope you get some sleep tonight...and rest up... and don't feel hesitant to still get checked out if you just feel like something is happening... I do know women who have gone from closed to a 9 in a just an hour or so without blood or water breaking....it is possible...

I've never been more than 34 weeks pregnant and in the past I was always supposed to be concerned about "regular" contractions. I was always admitted for contractions just like these, so now I'm confused. The nurse said that I'm having real contractions, they're just not strong enough (or painful enough) yet to change my cervix. They also said it could go on like this for the next few weeks. I'm pretty uncomfortable, but I have an OB visit tomorrow, so hopefully I can get some more info. from them. Thanks girls :)

Oh, I'd be totally confused, too, Melissa! After all of the caution we are told to take over contrax with twins, being pg with a singleton sounds SOOO different. Have you lost your mucus plug that you know of?

Good luck at your appt. Let us know how it goes.

Oh Melissa I know EXACTLY how you feel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so confusing when you're sitting there in pain , contracting regularly, and they tell you it's no big thing! It just sets off some kind of internal alarm clock where you start thinking, "any hour/day now"....and it's so hard to just go on with your day as though you didn't think you were just in labor!

I hope everything went ok at your appt. If we don't hear from you maybe we should assume you are off having a baby. :D
