Boy it's been a fun week.... Thrush, yeast infections and now constipation...

What do we do for a 4 month old who's constipated?? can we give them water? Anything else we can give them to 'assist' and make it not hurt so bad?? Her lil poops are about as hard as ours (sorry TMI) to begin with, then they will come out the normal, sort of runny consistency. Am I putting to much mix in their formula?? That couldn't be it, cuz only one girl is constipated. She's also the one with Thrush right now, would that hold any bearing??

    Thanks ladies!!

Talk to your Dr's Office but ours told us some juice... I did 1ounce of prune/apple to 2 punces of water and after a couple of days my little emma was cleared out, we have to keep her on it everyother day though or she stops up again. If you try it though it is normal for her to spit it up a little bit when she first starts.

I used fennel tea at that age and we just took our daughter to the chiropactor and before we got home she had pooped and then once again that night. Hope it clears up soon.

Our boys have/had terrible constipation. Before finding our solution, they were as hard as rocks and it would get stuck half way out. It was the worst thing I have ever seen them go through. When they were little we were told a couple of ounces of water. That did not help. Then we were told prune juice ( I did baby prune juice) and that did not help. Around 6 months, we needed to begin mineral oil and use if every other day and now they are good. Def. talk to yor dr especially if it happens often.

When DD used to get constipated I was told by our Pedi to get the child sized glycerine suppositories (they sell them at most stores for $1-2 for like 15 of them I think) and break a small piece off and insert it into her rectum. It doesn't hurt at all and will produce a BM within 30 minutes or less (I have found its usually immediate with her so be sure to have a diaper under her when you do it. I still have to use them on her every once in a while and she will actually smile while I am doing it because she knows it will help. Of course ask you pedi if they think that is the right approach for your situation.

My girls are very constipated. We keep it under control by giving them prune juice (1 oz PJ with 1 oz warm water) every morning. Keeps things soft and running smoothly. The glycerine suppositories are good for when things are hard and stuck. It'll get stuff moving, but I found we needed something to keep things soft regularly. To avoid the hard stuff all together.

My DD has been constipated from birth it seems. At 4 months it is safe to give juice. In fact, when my DD was 4 months, the pedi told us to give her undiluted juice (prune or pear) because it wasn't working watered down. When that didn't work (her poops were so hard, she screamed and bled when she pushed and I always had to help her), we got a prescription for Miralax. it works great. I almost have her weaned off of it. Now that she's eating food, juice is helping her a lot more. We were also told to try suppositories and karo syrup (1tsp I think to a few ounces of water or something like that). Sometimes when babies are constipated they will have runny poop that comes out because they're so backed up that it has to seep past the blockage. Gross, I know, but once they get things moving their poop should be the consistency of pudding. Anything else talk to your pedi about.

Our pedi had us give a few ounces of water at 4 months to help. But the BEST solution is to stick a thermometer in vaseline, then about 1/4 - 1/2 inch in their fanny hole, and within 2 hours they were all clear! Some people do it and within 30 seconds they are clear. It works like a CHARM! Good luck!

just wanted to add, we've been giving prune juice since the girls were a couple of weeks old. Per the pedi's suggestion...
