Over the past two weeks we have transitioned from bottles of formula to sippies of milk. We have been successfully bottle-free for about 5 days. Woo hoo! But, the girls have been sort of constipated since starting milk. This was never a problem before. Will things eventually balance out as they get used to milk or is this something we're going to be battling on an ongoing basis?

I noticed my girls having bowel changes with every transition...from baby food to table food, from formula to milk, etc. I increased their fruit intake, and even gave them some of the Gerber prune/apple juice to help move things along. I had to figure out from that point just how much fruit they needed a day to keep things moving.

When we transitioned to milk, our DD did not have problems with constipation but our DS did. We also upped the fruit intake and would use a 2oz prune juice/2oz water mixture to get the works started. Our pediatrician also advised to hold off on rice cereal and bananas as they also bind babies up. It took DS a couple of weeks to work it out and then he got used to it.

Every now and then mine will get constipated and when that happens I give them some grapes and that ends the constipation! Will yours eat grapes? I cut them in half to make sure they don't choke.

Someone here on TS told me to stick with the 'P' fruits for constipation (pears, prunes, peaches, etc.) & 'BRAT' for the runs (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast). It works. HTH!

ours have the same birthday :))), and the same problem--poor things! i'm weaning my breast pump and one of my little men is getting lots of cow's milk now, and sometimes he actually cries when he's pooping (sorry if tmi, lol!). we're trying to do more of the p friuts and also i've switched to goat's milk for the time being, just to see if it makes a difference.

    gl!

I did notice a change in stools when we switched but we didn't get constipated. When my girls have been constipated I push water and it seems to help. I know that others have good success with some juice mixed with water too.

Cups or water/juice are also good for them. Milk is actually supposed to have a laxative type effect. my LOs have had diarrhea and our doc just said no dairy until things firm up again.
I agree with the P (peas, prunes, pears, peaches,). doctor also told us to avoid, pear, apple, and grape juice until they are better so try some of those!
