Constipation Update

I just wanted give an update on my dd. We visited the Dr. last week and she has put her on Miralax. We are still working on the proper dosage for her. When we first started it was to much and she was going so much she got irritated down there but she was going more regularly and in less pain. Now we have backed off on the dosage and she goes about every other day and it still rather firm so we may have to make adjustments. She wants to go on the potty but gets frustrated because she is used to standing and going. She will sit and try but get frustrated and stand up. So I tried getting her to start pushing while she was standing in front of her potty and then sit when she started to go. Sometimes succcess sometimes frustration. We are still working here but I know it will come when it comes.

One thing that Ped rec'd with my 2 was to have them sit for 20 minutes after breakfast and dinner. Since getting a 2-3 yr old to sit for that period of time was difficult, we began reading to them on the potty. It helped them relax and take their mind of the pooping. My daughter has potty books -- she grabs 2 after breakfast and "reads" them on the toilet.

 

I just wanted to say, you might want to get her checked out for allergies. My dd always had a hard time with being constipated & when we finally had some allergy testing done, it came back that she's allergic to eggs. And apparently an egg allergy can cause constipation. I never knew!

 

:hug: I hope you figure out the dosage pretty soon!!! I am sure she'll figure out the sitting down thing as soon as she's having more practice!!

 

We're finally on Miralax as well. We've been on it almost a year, I guess? Gosh, doesn't seem that long. Anyway, I still don't feel like we have the dosage down pat. I have found that the past couple of months that giving her a smaller amount every day has been better than more every other day. We have varied between constipation and diarrhea - neither of which help come potty training. I'm worried about starting PT with her if we don't have predictable pooping, kwim? I don't want to set her up for failure.
