i was at my pedi's office and was discussing one of my LO's constipation issues. he has a hard time going (straining) and his poop is hard.
she said 1 oz of prune juice and 1 oz of water.

well. i did that with both LO's and they went within 30 mins! and it was very soft and a lot....lol. sorry, TMI.

is this normal? should i be giving it everyday?

I think it's fairly normal, especially when they are adjusting to solids. I don't know if you need to do it every day, maybe just decide day by day.

I don't know if I'd give it to them every day. How much solids are they taking right now? And, by the way, any other kind of juice will probably work, too. We have used apple or apple/grape juice if needed for that in the past. If they are doing well with solids, I would suggest trying them on the level 1 prunes instead of giving the juice. My two are extremely picky, difficult eaters and prunes are one of the only things they like. I give them prunes at least once or twice a week. Knock on wood, we're trucking along with no constipation issues yet.

I agree, if your just introducing solids it might be time to start some fruit:)

I also found that giving my boys pears a few times a week helped out with the constipation and then I didn't have to give them any juice. Best of luck

they eat solids twice a day. we do fruit; pears, apples, bananas and sweet potatoes.
i know bananas can be binding. they eat pears a lot.

no rice cereal either - just oatmeal.

Mine eat a non-constipating fruit every morning (usually pears). We've used apple juice and pear juice. I don't like the prune juice because it stains if they are messy. DS is also on Benefiber (as suggested by the pedi). They also eat peas every day (high in fiber).

I just try to give a stool-softening food like peaches or peas at least once a day. I don't like to give them juice too often because it's higher in sugar than purees.
