Sorry, this whole thing is just going to be TMI!

My dd Emma is constipated and has been been pooping logs and pebbles for the past 4 weeks. The reason she's been constipated for so long is because she'd poop a "regular" soft poop once a week, so I would think she's done being constipated but she wasn't. I've been giving her juice and cutting back on things that constipate (like crackers, cheese, noodles) for the past 4 weeks and the poor thing is still constipated! I haven't asked her pedi about it yet, but I was wondering if there was something over the counter I could give her? BTW, she poops everyday, but they are super hard and I feel so bad for her!

My sister and her daughter (who is now 17 months) had this problem a month or 2 back and she was reccomended ground flax seed. A couple of teaspoons sprinkled into yogurt or oatmeal or a smoothie worked well for her. She would also stew some prunes and serve those as well.

My yonger twin Antoine had a simlar problem his bowels were har and it hurt him to poop and it would only be a pebble our pedi suggested
stop giving him apple juice, we tried prune juice but it worked sometimes but not all the time

Give her some mineral oil in her bottle not to much cover the bottom of the bottle with mineral oil and fill the rest up with juice once a day she will poop alot and it will be hard but the next one will be soft

I just re-read my post and realized I didn't say that the juice I've been giving her is prune juice!

I think I'll try Kamilahs suggestion, maybe that'll get stuff "moving".

We use baby prunes in this house, usually at the pebble stage, so ur maybe past that stage now, but always works. They still love them now at 3 1/2 so I figure they're good for them.

    Good luck

My son gets constipated once in awhile and he gets super cranky. I would give him 3-4 ml of milk of magnesia in the morning and if nothing happens, then i givie it again during lunch, he will usually go by the time he goes down for his afternoon nap.

i was told papaya juice is even better than prune ... but haven't tried it. this has been an ongoing problem for one of my girls. lots of water ... like every half hour as well as putting in wheat germ into anything you can, just like flax seed, I guess.

Wheat germ in the yogurt has really helped my girls. They were having the pebble poops until we started doing this. Good luck!

There could be something in her diet that is constipating to her that you wouldnt think would do that. My boys were really constipated and I figured out finally it was eggs. They can eat a ton of cheese, yogurt and banana's and not be constipated but weird things make them constipated. Is there something she is eating on a daily or almost daily basis?

My ds has the same problem. It isn't bad, but every 2-3 of days we need to help him out. So, a friend's pedi suggested Benefiber. You can use up to 3 teaspoons a day. We started with one teaspoon that is all we need. I give him that with a little juice watered down and that does the trick.

    HTH.

The newest thing I've been using for this is Prune Activa Dannon Yogurt. They really like it (as opposed to pureed prunes and prune juice).. and it works well.

It's lowfat yogurt, which I know isn't ideal (we usually use the whole milk stuff) but it doesn't have artifical flavors (such as splenda) and it tastes good!
