my twins just turned one and they are constantly geting colds and viruses. sometimes together or one twin gets something and as he or she gets better, the other comes down with something. they started going to a babysitting place a few months ago and recently have been there a little longer. im guessing they are picking up viruses there. poor things. im also guessing they are teething. but they have fever with their viruses sometimes. and one of them got an ear infection this week and now the other has a small fever. im at the doctor office almost every other day. i feel so bad for them and i am also frustrated. im still nursing them and trying to wean but with them being sick its tough not to give them that comfort.HELP!! im going out of my mind. is this normal..and when does it end??????

I feel like my two do get a cold once a month and we end up in the peds office for something. It's never anything serious, thank goodness, but it's a pain. I think some kids are just more prone to things than other, I'm sure my oldest DD brings a lot of it home from school and the twins just happen to get it.

We are having this exact same issue (colds every few weeks plus teething). The whining, clinging and stuffy noses are driving me out of my mind! And of course, I feel bad for my little guys too--it's not their fault they feel lousy.

We go out a lot and do a couple of different playgroups. I am fairly convinced that these are bringing home the colds, because they almost always coincide with some social event. I'm considering limiting their social time through the heaviest part of the cold season, because honestly I just can't take any more of this. I know it's good for them to build their immune systems, but from what I've heard they do most of that in pre-school  .

I'm curious to see if anyone else has suggestions. My guys were very healthy while I was bf, but since then the colds have been nonstop.

I went through the same things with mine. They only went to the gym nursery & church nursery, but it seemed like they were sick more then they were well. Mine were really good at picking up stomach viruses :(!!
It does get better with age. Mine are just over 3 now & rarely get sick.

I spent an afternoon (after being sick for 2 months) dipping all toys in bleach water, then rinsing and drying, and putting them away. The ones that could be -- I washed in the washing machine. Then I had a limited number of toys that had few pieces to them and that is what we played with until we got better. I would use clorox wipes on them everyday during nap time and sometimes also at bedtime. limiting the nubmer of toys and keeping them clean as well as keeping up on the hand washing really helped get rid of the germs.
if they are at a baby sitter's home, then there's not much you can do to control how they clean toys.

We had a lot of issues like that around that age--now they do get sick less. I think they needed to build up their immunities. Something else that helped us was I took them to a naturalpath doctor after about 3 months of nearly weekly visits to the pedi. He gave us this treatment to help their immune system-- liquid capsules that you put in their drink that had little bits of broken up cold and flu viruses, not enough of any one virus to make them sick, but just enough to tricker an immue reaction. I feel like that helped a lot.

Since I joined the gym and take them, they are getting sick much more!! It is driving me crazy. I've been giving vitamins and vitamin C to help. I guess they have to build up their immume systems though.

I'm sorry to hear your twins are getting sick all the time. Dr. Jim Sears (well-known pedi) was on Dr. Phil early this year talking about kids and health. And, he mentioned that kids, on average, get sick 8-10 times per year. Anything less than that, then you are doing good. So, it's not uncommon for our kids to get sick. Our best defense is to eat right and watch what they eat, clean hands constantly, and take a good supplement - like Juice Plus+ (see my signature for more info).

Mine were like that at that age. Just think of the fact that you are strengthening their immune systems. It does get better.

We are having the same thing here. My girls started nursery school in september 2 days a week for 3 hours and they have been sick constantly. As soon as they get over one thing they get somthing else.

I can't even count the number of hours we spent at our pediatrician's office last fall/winter. My pediatrician constantly reminded me that my kids will be very healthy kindergärtners because they are building up their immune systems.

I know how hard it is to remain positive in the midst of all the sickness...take care of yourself. This too shall pass...just not soon enough!
