I have had a UTI now for one month. I was given one 3 day dose of microbid a month ago and today had my u/s appointment, gave a sample and it is still there :( I have a history of bad UTIs, one which spread to my kidneys and had me hospitalized when I was 12, and I do not want to have that happen again. Anyone else have problems with UTIs when you were pregnant? Any way to avoid or lessen the likelyhood of one? I am on microbid again for a week, hopefully this will clear this one up and I won't have to deal with it again. It makes me feel yucky :bad:

I am so sorry to hear that! I hope you feel better. I had a UTI in early pregnancy and am not sure if I have another one now (I had no symptoms of the first one, my doctor's office found out via urine sample). Drink plenty of water and cranberry juice and get rest. I heard that pregnant women are suspectible to UTI's. Feel better soon!

I had 3 when I was pregnant and they thought I may have had one when I was getting ready to deliver. It sucks. Make sure you try to empty your bladder when you go pee. (Which is near to impossible). Hang in there and be sure you take all those meds!

The only time I get UTI's is in pregnancy. This time, I'm on macrobid suppression (1 pill every day) the whole pregnancy. I've had a couple times when I still have tested pos for UTI and then I was on Keflex. UTI's can cause bad contractions and preterm labor so make your Dr. stay on top of it!

I hate that UTI can spread to the bladder and cause contractions...I am worried because both times I had to tell the Dr. I suspected a UTI or they wouldn't have checked. I guess being a strong advocate for yourself is the only way you will get the best medical care possible, and it is hard for me to speak up. This whole pregnancy has taught me to be more vocal because its not just me I am trying to stay healthy for.

I have always had a problem with UTI's and I had a chronic one at the end of my pregnancy. I am so sorry you are going through that I know how yucky they make you feel. I was told to empty your bladder as often as you can and just drink a ton of water. Also the whole front to back thing but these are things you probably already know. I don't know if you are still having sex but if you are make sure you pee before and after. Sorry if this is TMI but the more empty your bladder is the more closed your urethra stays which will keep bacteria out. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, it does seem like you have to be an advocate for yourself (and your babies!) The last group of Drs. I went to with my sons were really bad about taking UTI's serious. I'm a nurse and I would check my urine on my own and just call them and tell them I had a UTI and please call in a prescription. This time around, my Dr. really jumped on top of things quick and started the suppression Macrobid right away. I know UTIs are a pain, I hope it isn't an issue for you for the rest of your pregnancy. ;)

10% of pregnant women get UTI's :) And I have been lucky enough to also get one! and if you get one during your pregnancy you are 3x's more likely to get another one during your pregnancy. I lean forward (as much as I can!) towards the end when I am peeing to make sure I get out all of it! And I never hold my pee! Thats one of the #1 causes is not urinating when you have to.
The really bad thing about UTI's is they lead to kidney failure but if you know you have one than you are okay. The reason dr.'s usually monitor them so closely is because they don't want it to spread to your kidneys but it looks like you have it under control (for the most part). Just keep doing what people are tellin you to do and u will be fine...

I had them constantly too. Cranberry juice and vitamin C are supposed to increase the acid in your urine and help with UTI's.
