This may seem like an incredibly naive question....

My little ones are due in June and it can get really hot here. When I bring them home am I supposed to put them in a onsie, or a shirt/pant combo because of the umbilical cord? I have some light cotton blankets, but I'm clueless about what to dress them in until the cord falls off.

    Thanks!

My boys were born June 26th last year and came home from the hospital wearing onesies. They were newborn size and pretty big so they didn't really irritate the cord at all. They actually wore onesies all the time since I didn't like the little t-shirts and we never had a problem with their cords.

Ours came home in June in California and wore onsies w/ hats and flannel receiving blankets. Nurses said to think about how much clothing you would feel comfortable wearing and add a layer. They have a hard time regulating their body temp when they are newborn so that's where the hat came in. Plus, most building here are air conditioned and too cold for them. If I was going to run our air, I put them in those little footed pajamas and hat. None of that seemed to bother the umbilical cord but my girls were preemies and tiny so their clothes were baggy and not constricting at all.

My kids live in onesies year round, or footed sleeper jammies. As long as it's not really tight it won't bother the cord. I try to let it dry out a bit when changing diapers, which will be every couple hours all day long! :D I hate the little t-shirts because they ride up and the whole babies back is sticking out, seems silly to me! :)

I loved the gowns too (open at the bottom) easy to change their bottoms without all the buttons. Plus I have always bought zippered sleepers in various warm & cool weather materials since again much easier to change them. Make sure all snaps (if you do buy them -even on the oneies) are easy to snap. It is only now at 14 months that I would put them in a two piece at night.....

Mine wore onesies (preemie size from Babies R Us) and the footed cotton snap up PJ's (circo ones from Target once they got big enough) and their umbilical cords were fine :)

With my son I remember it was a hot day in May which is pretty odd now a days but anyway I put him in a sailor suit my mom had got him as a going home outfit. I skipped the ounsie because it was hot and the pants went over the umbilical cord area. I remember the pediatrician telling me not to worry about it, it will dry up and fall off no matter what you do. Once we were home and settled I changed him into the long gown pj's....those were awsome! also I took all the tshirts from the hospital so he would wear those with a diaper when it was really hot.
