All right ladies, my dd will not roll over and doesn't seem to have any desire to try. My ds never stays still and loves to roll and jump and try to grap toys but my dd just kinda likes to relax and lie on her back or her tummy and look at toys. She will interact but not to the same intensity that her brother does. So, is this normal? Is it still ok that she isn't interested? Does anybody else have babies on two different tracks? Is it a boy vs. girl thing?

    Hi,
I am concerned about this exact thing. I don't think it is girl/boy thing. I have both girls, they are 5 months old today and one seems way ahead of the other.
Allison rolls all over the floor and has been for a couple of weeks. Jenna CAN roll over, she has done it, but now she just lays there and cries until I roll her over.
Allison also talks more and interacts more. Jenna does not eat from a spoon as well and also does not have as good of control over her head..She still gets wobbly but only sometimes.
I try not to worry about it. My pedi told me they can be a month apart in development, to not compare the two but I cannot help it. I do worry all the time about Jenna. I actually cannot wait until our next appt. to talk to the doctor about this.

I don't know if it is a b/g thing or not, but mine are exactly the same way. DS started rolling at 4.5 months DD at about 6 months. DS has been crawling and pulling up and DD makes no attempt to move at all. They both like toys, DS likes to chew on them and bang them on anything that will make noise, and DD likes to look at them and examine them. I think mostly they just develop differently, but it is hard not to compare them!!

Mine have been on different tracks since the beginning. Zoe didn't roll over from her back till 7 months, and even now she just doesn't like to. She is a little behind & is doing some exercises for her muscles to get stronger.

I wouldn't worry, though. I think 4 mos is still pretty young & your ds is probably just ahead. It's so hard not to compare, though!

It's normal. James was a roller from early on and he loves to play with toys, but Sean was more content to lay and bat. Now they are rolling machines, James is nearly crawling and Sean spends as much time as he can on his tummy trying to "swim". Sean is still a bit behind James.

I am so relieved to see all of your replies to this. I am glad someone asked about it. I feel better now. I was just talking to a friend of mine about my concerns over lunch today. THank you. [IMG] [IMG]

My DS has done everything before DD. However, DD only seems to be a couple of weeks behind DS. DS is much more verbal than DD . . . this has been pretty consistent.

I deffinately wouldn't worry. My dds also have been achieving goals at totally different rates. My one dd just started crawling a few days ago and my other sweet pumpkin JUST started rolling over about a 2 weeks ago from back to stomach and a few days ago she figured out how to get back but she gets stuck now and then. I'm not worried at all. She is very laid back and is kinda like, "whatever." Although, now that she sees her sister crawling, I do notice her trying her darndest but she just isn't getting it and not quite ready. The Ped did mention to me that they are noticing a large percentage of babies who are starting to achieve many milestones later than they used to which he said they beleive is attributed to the high increase in babies sleeping on their backs. So if prevention of SIDS meant her rolling over a little later...so be it. Now if those darn teeth would just come in!! LOL

Mine are same as PP's. My DD is army crawling everywhere - has been for about a month. DS just started rolling over at 6 months and is still only rolling over and just now starting to try to reach for toys.

Mine were always way off when it came to the gross motor movements. Hannah in fact never really rolled over. She just could not and would not do it. She still managed to learn to sit up, crawl, and walk on a reasonable timetable. She just never rolled!

Megan doesn't like to roll but she sits up perfect alone. Haley loves to roll and will roll all over the house but she can't sit up as good. The doc said not to worry it is just like have two different children they won't do everything at the same time. Meg can roll and does it in the crib but won't do it if we are watching.

Mine are completely different, too! One isn't too eager to do anything physical and the other one is always moving. If you had a singleton you wouldn't even think twice about lack of development, but I think since you have another baby the same age, it is very easy to compare them and worry that one is lacking.

My lazybones Sarah didn't roll over until 7 months. She was developing normally in all other ways (and had learned to sit up on her own long before she rolled), so we didn't worry. She just hated being flat on the floor, and we never forced the tummy time thing, so she didn't get much practice. She is now learning to walk -- late rolling doesn't seem to have hurt her.
