    Here's a question...

My daughter was born at 40 weeks (a few days overdue)...

My twins are being taken by csection at 38 weeks (this coming Tues!!!!)...

So, what's the difference between babes born at 38 weeks and babes born at 40 weeks? Any????

At 8 weeks of age, will my twins really be "6 weeks"?

    Comments?

I think most Drs. consider 38 weeks full term even for a singleton pregnancy. I don't think most drs. adjust the age for any baby born at 38 weeks. That said you really can't compare any baby, on when they will hit milestones or how they will be at certain weeks. Each baby is so different whether they are twins or a singleton.

I would not compare them. They will be considered full term babies, but my oldest daughter was born at 41weeks and weighed 9lbs12ozs and the babies were born at 38 weeks and weighed 5lbs 13oz & 5lbs 11oz. I don't know if it was the size difference or the 3 extra weeks I carried my oldest but she did seem a bit more alert. Lik I said though you can't compare. It is very hard because my oldest dd was crawling and sitting at 5months and my little girls didn't sit up until 7 months and they crawled at 10 months. My oldest walked at 10 months and these 2 didn't start walking until 14 months. There is also an eleven year difference between my oldest and my twins so I may have forgotten some things. Congrats and good luck. TWINS ROCK......

My DD was 40 weeks, 5 days and was 8 lb. 8 oz.

The twinkies were born at 38 weeks, 1 day and were 6 lb. 4 oz. and 7 lb. They say each week in that last month that they put on about 1/2 a lb. inutero. Sounds about right with mine.

Oh, and when I worked in Early On we started adjusting for age at 36 weeks. 38 weeks is considered term for both singletons and twins I'm pretty sure.

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that both of my singleton babies were born at 38 weeks via C-sections with no issues. I believe that it is considered full term for all babies! Congratulations on your new additions!

    My DS1 was 41 weeks (7 lb 12 oz & twins were 38w2d 5 lb 3 oz and 5 lb 13 oz)

My twins were much smaller and weaker when it came to breastfeeding and not as alert. I felt like there really was a 3-4 week lag. We all came home and after a little rough start with getting my DS2 to latch things went well.

Good luck, let the games begin!!

My oldest was born at 41w2d, my twins 3 weeks earlier 38w2d. They were lighter (but proportionally lighter compared to my oldest), but other than that pretty much the same.

Mine were born at 36 weeks and even with the 2 of them there is a big difference in hitting milestones. There was a 1.5 pound difference in weight and still a pound difference. The one girl was 2.5 months behind the other with smiling and now with crawling as well. There is so much for them to catch up when they are not full-term singleton.

My girls were born at 38 weeks - they were 6.8 and 6.9 pounds. All 3 of my boys were at least 40 weeks - they were singletons and only weighed 7 something each. My girls were c-section babies and Ava had a bit of trouble breathing at first - they said that is normal for c-section babies, she spent a few hours in the special care nursery but then came to my room and went home with us at just 2 days old. In my opinion there was no difference in the girls compared to my 40+ weekers.
They have actually met all milestones early and have seemed right on track from day 1. The difference I noticed was in ME!!
I was much more tired this time than after any of my singleton deliveries - but then again this was my first c-section and I had 2 babies!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I am SO excited for you!!!
