I found the outfit I want my new little man to wear home from the hospital but I have no clue what size to buy. The boys were swimming in their preemie outfits
Newborn was 5-8lbs and 0-3months was 8-12lbs and there looked to be a pretty big size difference.

I was going to get one in each size but i decided against that. What size should I buy?

ETA: We are only having one baby this time. I noticed from one of the posts that some might be thinking this is for a set of twins but its not. Just one single little boy this time.

Ditto! Twins are just smaller than singletons.

Umm.. how big were your twins? I brought a onsie (NB) with me for a going home outfit (I'm just not a fancy person) and it didn't fit. He ended up wearing a gift from someone who had gave it to us when we were there. I was very thankful. Of course, not everyone comes home with a 10 lb baby!!
I know with the twins, outfits that say a certain weight generally fit them after they were bigger too. Sizing varies so much!! Good luck.

When my son was born he did not fit into new born clothes. He weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces. My twins were 5 11 and 6 9. They both fit in the newborns, but too big for the premies.

Alex was 8lb13oz and even many of his newborn outfits were a pinch baggy. So, I would go with newborn. I think it depends more on length than weight honestly. If you have traditionally long babies, maybe go with the 0-3? If not, I would think newborn would be fine.

Is there a possibility that you can choose the outfit you want to use and then have a friend or family member purchase it after you have the baby? That's what my DD did with her singleton. She showed me what she wanted and I got it after the baby was born.

    Good luck!

ETA: I bought size NB. :)

I think I would concur with most people here and say get the newborn size. When we brought the twins home, we had their outfits on plus a few other layers... all on the hotest days of the summer! Little did we know being first time parents. The hospital was very climate controled.

Buy newborn...I bought 0-3 months and my boys were both 6lbs. 10ozs. and they were swimming in the 0-3 outfits. I had to go out and buy some newborn stuff at the last minute because I didn't have any their clothes started at 0-3 months.

I say newborn also. Even my 9 lbers fit in newborn for a few weeks. They don't last very long, but I hate it when they are swimming in their clothes. We actually even get a few preemie outfits for each of ours.

I would buy newborn so it fits better. Normally for other things I would get 0-3 and let them grow into it but for the going home outfit, I'd want less room.

    I would say NB also!

We kinda have a tradition going in our family. It started with the twins. When they came home they were abt 6 lbs (5w1d old after being in the NICU). They came home in Carter's gowns (NB size up to 11 lbs) that are white and have frogs on them...I am a HUGE frog collecter...so of course my babies had to have frogs too!! :D We also have the blankets and bibs to match! I know...I'm a dork! LOL

Well 2 years later when Grant was born, I knew he HAD to wear the Frog gown. And we plan to keep this tradition alive with Megan...although she will also have a purple headband on her head! I thought about going cutsie and pink with her CH Outfit, but decided that this tradition was too cool not to continue...especially since she is our last baby. The Dr says she will probably be abt 6.5-7 lbs, so even if we were to get her something new, I would still get the NB size.

    ETA:
I also like Grammy (Kathy)'s idea of having someone buy it while you are in the hospital. Like Jackie said...you never know when you will have a 10 lb baby!! :D

I would go with newborn because it is the size that is most likely to fit. Dax was 9.9 lbs and his 0-3 outfit was a little baggy. Even though newborn was a little tight and he could only wear that size for a week, it would have been a better size for a coming home outfit.

I bought newborn size. Even my DD who was 8# 11 oz wore home a premie outfit because she was so skinny (24" long) I think 0-3 would be way too big.

definitely newborn...my daughter (although she was my first...so i was a newbie) was unexpectedly born at 36 weeks. She was 5 lbs 15 ozs at birth and 5 lbs 8 ozs when we left the hospital....since she was unexpected at that time...my husband just grabbed anything he thought would be tiny enough from home. He brought a newborn outfit and 0-3 and both were big on her. She just floated in both, especially 0-3....it was ridiculous. Once we were home, we ended up having to go out and buy her a whole set of clothes in newborn sizes due to most of the clothes we recieved were 0-3 and 3-6. Needless to say she was in them for a month and a half and she almost skipped 0-3 because she gained so much weight after that that she went right to 3-6 after a little past 2 months. So, i guess what it comes down to is expect that more than likely he'll need a newborn size, but bring a 0-3 just in case. Sorry i know it came out kind of long. :)

I guess I'm the odd one out. My singleton was nearly 11 lbs and NB would not fit her chubby little body. hehehe. She wore 0-3 for a few weeks and then went right to size 3-6 months and size 2 diapers. Thankfully, she's slowed down a bit.

My dd was 8lbs 5 oz and her newborn outfit did not really fit. She definitely needed 0-3 right away. So you may want to get both. A pound can make a difference. And my dd wa sonly 19 inhes also.

Wow, they were really close to the size of my twins...mine were 3#14oz and 4#8oz!

I would go with newborn. I had small twins and a small singleton (although you would never know it since she was over 20 lbs at 6 months old...lol). Olivia was just 6#13oz. Newborn was BIG on her, but she grew out of it very quickly.

If you want it soley for a coming home/hospital pic outfit, get newborn. If you want something that will last a bit longer...I would get 0-3 mo.
