I'm trying to get everything ready for the girls to arrive. My question is what size do I need to get? Preemie or NB? What size clothing did you bring your twins home in? TIA

My girls were 5-13 and 6-14, and we needed preemie outfits to take them home in.

My babies weighed the same as kristie75's and we had 0-3 outfits that were SO big on them. They were just sleepers and we were going straight home so it really wasn't a big deal. My DD is over 9 lbs now and the sleeper we brought her home in still fits.

I went to 37 weeks, my boys were 6lbs and 7lbs and they still wore preemies home and wore them for almost a month. I did bring a newborn outfit too though just in case.

My girls were 4lb 7oz at birth and were only about 4lbs when I brought them home. But they stayed in preemie clothes until they were 8lbs atleast.

Mine were 38 weekers and we brought them home in preemie outfits-they were still a little big! We got a lot of use out of the few preemie outfits we had for the first month until they fit newborn size better.

I went 37w2d and mine were 8-11 and 8-15. I had both NB and 0-3 outifts with us. Interestingly the 0-3 were too small but I think that was b/c they were too short. THey were plenty wide, I could have fit both babies into one outfit that way but they were cut soooo short they pulled down on their shoulders. [IMG]

The NB outfits were a little big but no one really noticed since they were little knit dresses with matching diaper cover.

I'd pack several different sizes/outfits and I'd also eyeball the sizing since every manufacturer seems to have their own idea of how big a newborn should be.

    Good luck and congrats!

my girls were 5lbs 9oz and 6lbs 13 oz but by the time we left the hospital they were 5lbs and 6lbs 3oz. I brought newborn with me thinking that preemie would be too small. Turned out they were swimming in the newborn clothes but it was all good. It was enough cover and we got them home. That's all that mattered. Best of luck to you!!

If having a special outfit for them to come home in is important to you, and you truly want it to be special then just look for an outfit in a preemie size. My DD went full term, was 8#9oz at birth and the NB stuff was still too big. My boys were 6# and 7#8oz and they were SWIMMING in the NB stuff. My husband had to go to the hospital gift shop and buy new preemie outfits. I'm a dork and having a special outfit for them to come home in was important to me. Have no idea why! Depending on how big your babies are, you may not get a lot of use out of the preemie outfits, but at least they will fit your newborns.

I would take two of each NB and Preemie (they are small [IMG] won't take up any space!) and keep the NB if you don't need it for going home! [IMG] Also, I didn't have their going home stuff with me as I had a few days and SIL had to go buy if for me and wash it etc....You have a couple of days once there to have someone bring additional stuff for you if necessary!

Our girls were 4.2 and 4.6 when they went home (a little more when they were born). They were preemie size but they actually wore their little hospital shirts home...most likely we were not supposed to take those home.

Mine wore preemies home...wore them until mid September, moved up to NB size, which still fit but tighter now. Are in 0-3 or 3 months now and they have a couple inches to stretch in them.

We just brought newborn, but way before hand I did buy preemie and intended on bringing those too. The only reason I didnt is because my ultrasound before the girls were here had them at 6.5 and 7 lbs.

Our girls were in preemie clothes for about 2 months and then they moved to 0-3 months.

My guys wore preemie sizes until they were 3 months old, then moved to 0-3. Even my Dave wore preemie outfits for the first month after he was born and he was 8lbs 2oz at birth!

We brought both preemie and NB (5-8lbs) outfits with us. Only the preemie stuff was remotely close to fitting, but it was still a little big and my guys were 5#8oz and 5#4oz at birth.

My girls were both about 5 pounds when they went home. They wore preemie in the NICU. They went home in NB because they were too LONG for the preemie. They were 4.4 and 4.14 at birth but 20 inches long.

I made the mistake of buying the "Go Home" outfits in 0-3 and never used them. [IMG] What did I know, my first was 8.7 and I just didn't realize how small 5 pounds was. [IMG]

I also found that going home was anti-climatic after 15 NICU days. It shouldn't have been but it was. We were already so tired from going back and forth and the stress of everything...It wasn't worth gettig upset about.

    Best of luck with everything!

Thanks for all the replies. I think I may take 2 preemie outfits and 1 NB outfit for each girl. For some reason I want them to have special coming home outfits.

    Thanks for all the help!
