I just wanted to know when everyone's kids got the concept that a crayon goes on paper and not in their mouth  I'm sure it's easier said than done but I can't lie, I am DYING for a scribbled mess I can hang on my fridge!

Honestly, we haven't tried it yet... I understand though, I want some artwork to hang :) I think I'm going to get some to get some of those big crayola things that look like animals for them to try soon. I think the box says 18 months but they're really chunky, maybe they'll figure it out, who knows.Tadoodles
They make smaller sets too, and ones for the tub.

My boys are 16 months old and when I say, "Do you want to color?" they get pretty excited. However-the excitement lasts all of two minutes and then they are done and the crayons are on the floor...

But hey-it was worth the two minutes of containing them-happily! I think I started around 12 months and I tried it in their highchair. They did try to eat them...but the more you do it-I think they will catch on that crayons are not for eating.

Five it a try-and have fun!

We introduced crayons at 18 months old with pulling their booster seat buckled up at the table. We can do colors for maybe about 15-20 minutes and they want to get out of their seat and play with another toy. We do the same thing for playdoh too. I'm glad we started right on time to do those little fun art project. It get them more motivate to do better each time and learn how to hold the crayons the correct way. At 2.5 years old they can scribble into the coloring without going all over the place. They are into stickers and learning how to glue things together too :)

Same here. The more you do it the more they will catch on. The good thing is Crayons are non-toxic, so if they do get a chunk it's not going to kill them. My girls have created some fabulous creations. Another fun thing to do is finger painting. I just laid an old sheet outside, stripped them down to their diapers and let them go at it. We all had a great time, and they created some wonderful masterpieces. The paint washed right off, so that wasn't a problem. Have fun!!

Our boys still try to eat them, but they like to color for a few minutes. They do it at daycare so we gave it a shot last weekend here. I have one of those plastic lapdesks that I didn't care if it got colored on. I just put two pieces of computer paper on it and we gave them the fat crayons. Mostly they stabbed at the paper but with help getting started would scribble some. I did get one to hang on the wall the other got crumpled and chewed on.

Mine eat them sometimes but we go for it. They have a blast and it is great to work on those fine motor skills.
