I think it's time to face the fact that our girls have developed colic. Starting this week they've just been AWFUL. I have been saying that for a couple of weeks, but this has been by far the worst week ever. They cry, and cry, and nothing helps. They only like to be held upright, kind overlooking our shoulders. I know I have two babies, and two shoulders, but it's so hard to hold two screaming kids! They're 3 months old yesterday and I would have thought that if they truly had colic it would have shown this bad a long time ago, but I guess I'm wrong? I could swear they're teething. Both girls kind of calm down (sometimes) when I rub their bottom gums lightly, and both like the pacifier, and I think I see two little white things on the Ryleigh's bottom gum on the inside part. However, I feel like I might be trying to mask the fact that I'm dealing with two colicky infants by saying they are teething. So, what do you guys think? And, what are you suggestions, what did you do with your colicky twins?

My boys got like that around 3 months also. I don't know if it was true colic, but the pedi called it that. Ours was at it's worst for about two weeks. We lived in shifts so that we could sleep. We tried everything, swaddling, swinging, shushing. Really only time helped. It will get better.

But, I'm wondering if this is truly colic or if it's teething. They don't do it at night. And the time ranges everyday- sometimes in the early afternoon and then in the evening too. But, when we put them down around 7/8pm, they sleep until about 7am with 1 feeding in that 12 hour period. They don't fuss and never cry like they do during the day at night.

Ya mine was only in the evening, about 6-9pm. 3 months is a little young for teething, but not always. I guess only time will tell. You could try Tylenol.

3 months is a little old to develop colic and a little too young for teething. My guess would be teething more so then colic though. Have you tried any oragel or hylands tablets? How about teething rings? The fact that you said they calm a little when you rub their gums makes me think it's early teething...A friend of mine, her dd got her first tooth at 3.5 months so it's possible! No fun for you though  Both of mine were colicky and I don't know how I survived it! They screamed everynite from 7pm-3am like clockwork.

3 months is exactly when my DD became colicky. For her it was milk protein allergy. Have you spoken to your pedi about all that? Anyhow, here is how we survived colic. She loved her bouncy, it seemed to be the perfect position to make her tummy feel better. The angle or something. I bounced her for endless hours in that thing. I almost burned my vacuum cleaner up because the sound would sooth her like there was no tomorrow. Then I bought a vacuum cleaner cd and that worked just as well. Once I quit dairy (I BF), she improved DRAMATICALLY. There would still be fussy periods, but nothing like the 24 hour scream fest that there was before. I swaddled tightly, sometimes even for feeding because it was the only way she could calm herself down. I sang to her constantly and that also seemed to soothe her at her worst. I know how hard it is to deal with this and I hope you figure out ways to cope soon.

I have two suggestions. First off though, those little white things are probably not teeth...they are probably little harmless cysts that are very common. My first born had teeth in his 4th month...so with my twins I swore my DD was teething at 3 months. I was very wrong..she doesn't have any teeth yet and she is already 6 months! She was just so fussy I thought that was the only thing that could be happening! Anyway...I used Hylands Colic tablets for her and they usually worked within 15 minutes. The other thing I did was used a hypoallergenic formula (Nutramigen) which seemed to help a lot. Colic is most commonly caused by milk sensitivity. Go luck to you and just remember that all babies cry and with twins it just seems doubled cause it is!

Luckily, my twins don't have colic but my older daughter did BADLY. It was really rough, with her it seemed like her stomach hurt her so we switched to enfamil gentlease (probably not spelled right) it's the one in the purple can. That seemed to help some but I also switched her bottles to Dr. Brown's bottles, these bottles helped tremendously, she didn't seem to swallow near as much air - they are a real pain in the a** to wash if you don't have a dishwasher but they were worth it for me, I'm using them with my 12 w/o twin girls as well. These things helped but didn't totally get rid of the colic. We tried all different ways of holding her in order to get her to stop crying and usually what helped the most was to hold her out away from my body, tummy down with one of my hands putting pressure on her stomach and I would kind of cradle her with my arms and swing her back and forth gently. This always helped but was so tiring I couldn't always keep it up, another thing that sometimes seemed to help was to wrap her up in a blanket and take her outside on cool nights, for some weird reason it helped. I noticed someone else on here mentioned bouncy seats -- I love bouncy seats for my twins, if I am feeding one, I can bounce the other one with my foot in the seat to get her to sleep while finishing feeding or if I just want to relax in my recliner for awhile and read or something I will put both the bouncy seats in front of my chair and use both feet to bounce them until they go to sleep...if you don't have a bouncy seat, I would definately suggest getting one, this gets mine to sleep better than anything else, including swings and rocking chairs. Also, since they like pacifiers you can wrap them in a blanket and put one edge of the blanket over the pacifier and tuck it into the other side, to keep the pacifier in their mouths if they tend to lose it easily..I sometimes do this with my twins and it helps when they are cranky, I wouldn't advise putting them to bed like that for the night or anything though.

what has worked for me in the past was sitting baby on washer or dryer for a cycle, laying baby tummy to tummy with you (to hear your heartbeat) and someone mentioned swaddling, but I havn't tried it. good luck!
