so i've managed to pick up a cold/flu. i woke up this morning with a nose so runny and congested DH thought that i was crying. i have had a headache that won't go away and i'm exhausted but can;t sleep with minor body aches. i'm pretty sure i've got something.

what's the best way to handle this? how do i keep the boys from getting sick. their little immunities aren;t fully capable of this so should i try and get someone else over here to watch them, if at all possible, while i try and get cold medicine and what not? or should i just gin and bare it and sanatize sanatize sanatize before touching them???

    what would you do?

and i have to say that these boys have never been breastfed, they have been on formula since day one. so what to do??

I would just wash your hands really well before touching them and no kisses etc. You can only do so much and being the primary caretaker means you have to touch them. :pardon: I hope you feel better soon.

I agree with Rachel, and to be honest, the more "germs" they are exposed to now, the better off they are in the long run. I'm not saying be sure to swap spit with them, but it will certainly be okay if you still take care of them. :)

My girls are 4 weeks old today and are currently on days 2 and 4 of colds (stuffy/runny nose). I'm totally to blame as I had a cold last week. However, by the time I ad symptoms I'm sure the damage was done. I had been kissing on them and "close-talking" at them all week and then woke up feeling congested, achey and had a sore throat. I let my husband take over as much as possible at that point, avoided breathing on them and washed my hands like crazy, but it was too late. They both ended up sick.

I would just practice good handwashing and maybe even get a surgical mask for when you are near them, but chances are they may have already been exposed. Keep them upright whenever possible. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm with Rachel. I would hold off on kisses (I always kissed them on the very top of their heads when I was sick  ) and wash your hands lots, especially before feeding them. There is really no way to protect them from all viruses and every virus they get builds their little immune systems. I would never purposely expose my kids to sickness, but I never went to any great lengths to protect them from the odd virus here & there. I hope you feel better soon.

My dudes were 2 m old when older DS caught a cold from a plane (sat next a guy “sneezing his head off” according to DS) and I caught it and washed my hands till they chapped (not kidding I bled)… but they still got it… all you can do is try and wash as much as possible… I think there cold was more stress on me then them

    Feel better

I agree. Although, if you can get someone to help you just so you can rest, then go for it! Feel better!

First time I got a cold my wife exiled me from the babies (they were 2 months at the time) and ran herself ragged trying to take care of them by herself. More recently I caught the flu... she still exiled me from the babies, but this time we had some family come over to help her out.

both me and my husband currently have a cold. We are trying to wash our hands and not kiss them. But we are the only ones taking care of them... so there is no option not to be close. But there isn't much else we can do. He has been sick for 3 days and me 2 days. So far the girls are ok.
Hopefully we are on the last day of it. I would hate for them to get a cold already. :(
    Good luck!
