I woke up yesterday with the nastiest cold ever. This is my third nasty cold during this pregnancy and they keep getting worse. I am scheduled for a c-section in 11 days and based on my experiences with colds during this pregnancy, this one will still be here. Do you think they will still do surgery if I am coughing constantly? Somehow I doubt it.

I am very congested and find breathing difficult and I am actually coughing to the point of making myself sick to my stomach.

I took the standard approved meds and nothing is working.

    Any suggestions?

I think they will still proceed with the c/s... when my ds had surgery they told me the only thing they cancel for is a fever.... And this was general anesthesia...so a little more serious than getting a spinal. Hopefully it'll be mostly gone by then. And probably with everything else going on you will be too distracted to notice any more dripping from your nose. Do make sure to get any sore throat checked out...definitely wouldn't want to go into a c/s with strep throat.

Have you tried a vaporizer in your room? It might help with some of the congestion.

Talk to your Dr. I know I had a terrible cold w/ cough during my preg and bruised my ribs, it was so painful worse than labor. Your Dr. can give you tylenol w/ codiene to help w/ the cough and let you get some sleep.

I would 100% postpone your section if at all posible if your still coughing. Coughing after a csection is beyond anykind of pain you can imagine. Seriously ask anyone who's had a csection and choked on a drink or just had to cough. OUCH! I've delivered vaginally with a raging cold and the whole delivery room reeked of vick vapor rub but it helped me breath. I hope you feel better fast so you can have the babies as scheduled. If your still hacking a few days before or the day before I would just call your doc and tell him how bad it is and remind him of the pain associated with coughing after C.

DH came down with a cold a week before my scheduled c-section. I got it 5 days before delivery. My peri didn't cancel my c-section. I was worried I wouldn't be able to breathe while laying on my back during the surgery with all my congestion. They let me take a hit of Afrin right before so I could breathe and I ended up doing fine. I was so big I really didn't want to delay the section any longer than necessary :).

    Hope you feel better soon!
