    hi!
i live in new york and it does get cold here in the winter. my twins are one year old and i am wondering what to buy. should i get a full body coat which covers feet and arms or a jacket coat. what is neccessary. i can also cover them with a blanket or put them in a jjcole bundle me....obviously i would do hats and gloves but just wondering whether one year olds need a whole big set or a regular coat.

I bought mine a jacket style coat, hat, and mittens. The coat I got them also came with snow pants on the rare occasion we'll play in the snow.

We don't really walk outside in the winter, just in and out when we are going somewhere.

I would buy a coat, hats, and mittens. Especially if you have jjcole bundle me. :)

Coat, hat and mittens, and I can put a blanket on them if we're out in the stroller to cover their legs. I also got full body ones for the snow and really cold days.

I would just do a regular coat. I ended up buying both when mine were around that age and we never used the snow suit. Occasionally if we needed to get out of the house for a quick stroll in the dead of winter I would go through the process of bundling them up. But at one they hated not being able to move their arms and legs so much that the battle to get them in was just not worth it. If you do end up getting one, try a lighter weight one and just dress in layers underneath. Besides I could never quite figure out how to get them in their car seats with those things on and their is no way I was going to get them bundled to go to the car and unbundled to get them in their seats.

If you are taking public transportation, the outdoor trains, I'd get a full suit. It gets cold outside! If you are going from car to building, I would just get a coat and hat etc but with snow pants for playing in the snow. We have a full snow suit from the Gap, its not too huge but its bulky. We have fleece jackets for when we are running in and out.

I don't live in NY but I live in Philadelphia and I had both the full body covering hands and feet and a snow suit and guess what they wore neither not once. They alway wore their coat, gloves and hat covering their ears. I did not walk anywhere once it got really cold just in and out of the car so the coat was safer with the carseat.

My girls wore their jacket and hat last year. I could never keep their mittens on. I also had a JJCole Bundle Me Lite weight that I used in their stroller when we went in to NYC in december. I also used the bundle me on cool days when I took them out in the stroller for walks. I did get them a separate snow suit that was a coat and snow pants in a size bigger than they needed and we never used it and it will actually fit again this winter. The snow suit coat was allot heavier than the one they used all winter but for mostly in and out of the car their jacket was fine. All of this came from the OshKosh outlet. I love their coats and jackets.

Mine usually wear fleece snowsuits. I do see lots of toddlers running around with just jackets on, but I always worry that their legs will be cold (especially in the stroller). We do have more water-resistant snowsuits too, but only wear those if we're actually playing in the snow (which they did very little of last year -- it freaked them out).

It gets cold here, but is usually more like upper 30s/low 40s. We spend a lot of time outside. If you're only going to be outside when they're in the stroller, I'd get a Bundle Me, but that doesn't help once you let them out of the stroller.

BTW, snow suit sizes seem really crazy to me. Last year (from 11-16 months) Sarah wore one that was supposedly for 0-6 months. Amy wore one sized 9m that was actually smaller than Sarah's. Go figure. (This year they're both in LL Bean "fleece coveralls," Sarah in 2T which is currently way too big, and Amy in 18m which just about fits. I got them from Ebay.)
