When you mix powder formula with water how do you make sure all the clumps are out?

I've been using a wisk to stir the formula. Then I use the wisk to pick out all of the clumps - even tiny ones - out of the formula. I worry about the clumps clogging the bottles' nipples. (I mix big batches of formula at one time.)

Just wondering if their is a better/easier way....

    THANKS!

I always used a Formula Mixer, like this one and it worked great to mix it all together, clump free and it even helped keep the foam down. :good:

We (actually DH -- he was the formula czar) found that it dissolves much better if the water is very warm, almost hot. We would start with cold tap water (fewer bacteria), heat the whole jug of water in a pan of hot water on the stove, then pour in the formula and shake the daylights out of it until the lumps were gone. Then cool in a bucket of ice until it's back to room temp, then store in the fridge.

But I always secretly coveted a formula mixer. If I'd had to do it myself, I would have bought one, because I barely had the arm strength for all that shaking.

I used a similar mixer to Kyrstyn, but mine was the muchkin one and the mixing part actually came off, and became a bigger hasstle because it would pop off when we were mixing it and i would have to fish it out with my fingers! That was interesting!! So i ended up getting this and really like it. It keeps the foam down and i don't have any clumps at all.

    edited for grammar

I mix it in a pitcher with a hand held blender similar to these: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_ba?url=s...amp;x=0&y=0

But much cheaper, I found it either at walmart or target. Works awesome, no clumps, it does make it a but foamy on the top but I think it's partially because we are using cheaper walmart formula, I never had that much foam with good start formula with my older dd.

Anyways I mix in a pitcher, pour into a sealed jug to put in the fridge and fill bottles from that. Sometimes I'll fill a few bottles at a time right away so they are ready to go!

I mix 48 oz at a time in our blender and then pour the formula into a pitcher and put it into the fridge....it takes no time at all and there are no lumps that way and I didn't have to buy something special!

I solve that problem by using the generic version of the Enfamil formula. I had the same problem. For some reason, the generic (Target or Wal-Mart brand) breaks down, or dissolves, better than the brand name version and it is actually made by Enfamil, just has a different label on it. The pharmacist told me this. It has worked great for Payton (Zoe is on prescription formula). I use the generic version of Gentle Ease, and it is fantastic. Takes very little shaking and every bit is dissolved. She seems to like the taste better, too.

    Good luck!

I use the Dr. Brown's formula mixing pitcher and it works great.

I use the Munchkin formula mixer. It works great and I like that the wand is dishwasher safe. The only thing I do not like about it, is that the button is hard to push after a while!

just walk away from it for a bit. whisk until all that's left are the very small bits, then walk away from it. that gives the water time to permeate all of the little particles and saturate them and break them apart. come back maybe 20 or 30 minutes later and they should be gone on their own. if not, give it one more whisk and that takes care of it.

no need to go OCD over clumps, just have some patience. ;)

I use something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-FG7E59RDC...8515&sr=8-6 but mine doesn't have a handle and holds 32 oz. I make 24 oz at a time.

First I measure 24 oz of 'filtered water' using a jug that has unit numbers on it.
Then I pour 8 oz into my mixing jug, add 6 scoops of formula, and shake [add the other 6 scoops and shake again]
Then I pour the remaining amount of water into the mixture and shake. *we use similac sensitive so there is foam after shaking*
I wait a couple mins, then [using a large spoon] I scoop out the foam [it's easier to scoop out if you wait a min ;)]

Wola ~ and I never have any issues with clumps in my formula. Though when DH does it there are clumps [I don't think he follows my simple method :p]
