I am having the hardest time keeping the kiddos in cute, inexpensive clothes that don't get ruined. We don't have a ton to spend on clothes they're going to grow out of in a few months, but I want them to be cute. Any suggestions?

I don't have the greatest fashion sense but I get some very cute things right off the sale racks at Target and Walmart. Their clothes are very inexpensive and they have some nice designs. I think that as your boys move into the toddler sizes, you'll be able to find some cuter stuff for them than just the average onesie and footed sleeper.

I don't have boys but I have shopped for my nephew and I think Target and Old Navy have really cute and inexpensive clothes. Plus you can find some great deals on the sale racks.

Hit the multiple's clubs garage sales! Go early so you can find matching outfits.

I have a lot of hand-me-downs and garage sale clothes. My kids often don't match, but usually coordinate somehow. And thrift stores are great, too. You just have to take a close look, and go home and wash...but cute things (said because I have put my cute things in those places as well).

And, for the cheap, cute stuff, Walmart is a good inexpensive place to pick up matching outfits. Again...look at the clearance racks. I love clearance racks everywhere!

You might want to check Craigslist also.

I was going to also suggest Target and Old Navy. Old Navy especially can have some awesome clearance if you catch it at the right time. And, for maybe some cuter outfits to go out in, try Macy's clearance. I'm too cheap to normally shop at Macy's, but their clearance racks ROCK!!!! I also LOVE the Carter's store Clearance. Last year I bought my twins really nice button down cardigans for $4.99 (bought last season to wear this year). I bought them pants for $3.99, shirts that were 2 for $12, etc.

I love to get really cute clothes at JC Penney's when they have their great sales. I have several friends that buy next years clothes during the end of a season clearance sales at different department stores. You can get great stuff for just a few dollars.

I also buy a lot of clothes for my kids at a local kids stuff consignment store. They have some really nice outfits for an extremely reasonable price. I also sell my clothes to the same consignment store and have them give me credit and that helps a tone when I have to buy new stuff. It feels like I'm getting it all for free. It's especially fun when I'm selling back to them things I bought there last year! :)

We are lucky that we get the vast majority of our clothes as hand-me-downs, but those things that I do buy, I usually get from thrift stores, twins club sales, or (most importantly) the local consignment shop. The nicer brands are still $8-12 per item (which seems like a lot to me), but they're often barely worn, and brands that would be $20-30 per item new.

I also think Target's clothes are pretty cute, and I tend to buy basics (turtlenecks, onesies, jeans) from them. They aren't very well-made, though.

I get 90% of our kids clothes at children's consignment stores, like Kid-to-kid, etc.- some are chains and some are just local businesses, but I find the chain consignment stores are a bit pickier as to the quality of what they accept, so often the clothes are a bit nicer. I usually expect to pay about $3.50-$4.50 for pants and $3 or so for shirts, etc. and noone would ever know they are consigned.

Kohls has a line called Jumping Beans that they usually have marked at 50% off which means the clothes are $5 each.

Costco is our favorite place to buy clothes for the boys. They always have a couple of tables full of Carter's things. In baby sizes, it is typically $5 or $6 for a two piece outfit (pants and shirt), and the same for pajamas. In toddler sizes, it moves up to $7 or $8 per outfit. We figure it's about Wal-Mart price but for better quality Carter's clothes. We pretty much buy two of everything Costco has!! They get new shipments in regularly, so they might only have 2 or 3 outfits to choose from at any given time - but wait a week or a month, and you'll have a new selection.

I shop at Old Navy's sales and have gotten shirts for $3 or $4 and other clothes at discount. Target has some really cute clothes as well.
I have shopped Kohl's recently and bought DS some of their brand "Sonoma" jeans. I will say that after only a few wears, I can see faded knees which I don't see in Old Navy's.
So while I try to save $$, I don't go too cheap or they wear out quickly.

Go to Gymboree and ask for their off seasonal stuff that they store in back. Most stores like Baby Gap and Gymboree have these available.

I drive my dh crazy; our funds are extremely limited & yet I'm very picky about what the kids wear. I've found that stuff I get from Walmart just doesn't hold up as well....except for the George line.

So I shop our local Goodwills & thrift stores a lot. Also the baby consignment stores; I rarely buy new clothes. But I find really cute stuff (name brands even) for super cheap. One of our Goodwills doesn't have a very big selection, but all kids clothes are $0.50! I just go in every now & then to look through......and I search the bigger sizes, too; I have a rubbermaid box in the garage for bigger clothes.

I've also found killer deals on Target's clearance racks. Swim trunks for ds next year for $1.74! Shopping out of season is great (though you have to guess on sizes). When the weather gets good, hit the yard sales! My sister & I went several times together this summer.....put all the kids in one car & then we'd take turns looking at the stuff so one of us could stay in the car with the kids (went during naptime, so they slept through it).

And then to keep the clothes looking good I go through a lot of Oxy Clean! :) I like the stain spray much better than the powder.

I try to shop off season and I love Target and Old Navy. I go to consignment sales a lot too and I do shop the clearance rack at Walmart. I hardly had to buy any winter/fall clothes as I had bought a ton after Christmas last year.

I buy ahead for the next year(s)/size(s). I concentrate a lot of my efforts in January/February when most of the stores are dumping (often an additional 50-70% off clearance prices) their clothes during annual inventory. Because we live in Seattle, pants/long sleeves are fair game for 3 seasons a year. Last January I spent about $250-$300, but got the boys each:

full wardrobes in the next size
about a 1/2 wardrobe each 2 sizes up
a few random items 3 sizes up
winter coats in the next 2 sizes
snow pants in the next 2 sizes
winter boots in the next size up (and boy am I relieved that it appears I picked the correct size!)

All in all, I ended up with about $900 worth of stuff had I paid full price. Since that big run last January, I have picked up a few things here and there, but the ONLY thing I have purchased because we needed it and it wasn't already in my 'stash' was rain boots and socks.

If you continue with this sort of 'buy ahead' mentality it becomes part of the rolling budget and while that may wax and wane according to sales (which, I find, is no less predictable a science than scheduling when they'll out grow their current size) , you end up with sooo much more and able to be much pickier about holding out for quality items. I have under-bed (crib) storage bins for each size/season so things stay organized and when we outgrow things I simply go to the closet or bins instead of 'shopping'. ;) I just bought the boys Crocs in the next THREE sizes because I found them for $10 a pair, so for $60 (6 pairs of Crocs) I have gotten them high quality shoes that will get us through (our sandal needs) for the next year or two.

I'm pretty picky about 'sturdy', but not a stickler for 'name brand' on most things. My preferred brands for sturdy quality:
    Hanna Andersson (world's BEST pajamas)
    Kohl's "Sonoma" brand pants
Gymboree (good quality + great sales)
    Crocs
    Buster Brown (shoes)
    Kamik (rain boots)

You can go on Craigslist for your local area and post that you are looking for Matching twin clothing...and you'd be surprised at how many responses you will have!

    Twin Moms that share ROCK!

I love the clearance racks at Kmart as well! They have had summer stuff for $1- $2 for next year. And here in CA. we have nice weather all the time anyhow- they were wearing shorts and t's just a few days ago. Kmart, walmart, etc. have all that marked down-- then when we are a bit cold in Feb.- Mar. all their winter stuff is cheap, too!! I pass all my boys stuff on to a friend with twin boys that are about 6 months younger than mine! I wish I could find someone with boys 6 months older nearby! I think my boys dress up cute! I always have them in similar things, but not exactly... I wouldn't know who was who if they were in the same color!!

I haven't seen Freecycle mentioned yet. The network around here is great. I know that I've given away many adorable things and some that are pretty much only for play but free is always terrific and if you get stuff you don't want you can always pass on to someone else.

I also love Ross. I can get great name brand stuff- Nike, Carter's, etc. for a fraction of the price. You can also buy shoes and stuff for the whole family. I've gotten great deals at K-Mart and Wal-mart on their clearance racks. I live in a very rural area, so we don't have Kohl's or Target. Ross is my fave place to look for new clothes for my boys! I also do Old Navy and Children's Place online.

Keeping your little ones in cute and affordable clothes is definitely a tough task, especially when they grow so fast! Have you tried caden lane ? They've got some really adorable outfits that won't empty your wallet and are durable enough to handle playtime. It's a great spot to find stuff that's both stylish and practical for your kiddos. Worth a look for sure!
