Do you still use bodysuits/onesies while potty training??? I have read that they should be able to pull down their own pants but a body suit would impede doing it themselves...KWIM??

When training my oldest, we stuck mainly to pull up elastic waist shorts and pants, with no body suits or onesies. The trick is to get them to be able to go when they need to and not have to wait, so I think the clothing helped. At least it did with out first experience. Especially when she got closer to being all the way PT, she would sometimes wait almost too long to go, and then they really came in handy.

When I actually started with Gabe, I put him in a t-shirt and underwear. Didn't worry about shorts or anything like that. Once he got the hang of pulling up and down his undies, we added shorts. It went very well and very quickly. There is definitely something to be said for waiting until they are really ready. I didn't have to do anything other than buy Gabe some new cool undies.

I would stay away from onsies, overalls, really anything that isn't easily pulled up/down with a simple movement especially during training.

I also stopped the onsies, bodysuits, overalls, ect. when they started potty training. I had some onies that still fit them and were good for undershirts in cold weather and I just cut off the bottom. I've seen some really cute overalls but have avoided buying them just for this reason.

Thank you for your responses! I am not really training but she likes to use the potty and asks to go and loves go when we are out and I inherited a box full of fall/winter clothes that are mostly overalls and body suits :( so I wanted to check

We stopped using bodysuits when they were a year or so. We did what others have suggested...In the house, she wore a shirt and underwear. Now that she's trained, we put her in her shorts as well. If they are harder to get on/off, I just go and help her with that aspect. My ped suggested PT in the warmer months so they can run around in less clothing. I hope my other daughter is ready to train soon or we will be stuck with colder weather.
