I want to buy some summer clothes for the boys for next summer while everything is on clearance.
    Does anyone else do this?

Brett was in 3T or 4T's this summer depending on the brand etc.

The twins were in 2T or 3T...

Would I be safe to go up a whole size...like 5 for Brett and 3T/4T for twins?

I do buy ahead. Mine are usually pretty true to size, so I buy one size larger for the next year and leave the tags on it. That way I can always use it for a gift or sell it if I can't use it.

I would buy up one size like you are planning. They may still fit in some of their clothes from this year as well.

I do, I just buy what I think their size would be next year. It's worked out great so far!

My oldest DD has usually just been one size up, so that is what I buy when I buy ahead of season.

I have always bought our clothes that way. You can save so much money! Especially on summer clothes since you don't have to worry about the length of the pants. One size up is what we have always done. If something was super cheap and not likely to go out of style I have even bought 3 sizes up and stored them until the fit. This works great for things that are more fall/spring and can be worn pretty much anytime.

I buy ahead too for both summer and winter clothes as well as "year-long" items such as jeans etc. It saves so much money to buy ahead. Like Melissa said, leave the tags on so you can give the items as gifts or re-sell them as NWT if they don't happen to fit in season. I sold the few items that didn't/won't fit the girls this summer on craigslist and made back what I spent on them since they were new with tags. So, I have yet to to lose money buying ahead.

I do! My mom and I love to shop the sales - especially at the more expensive stores. I bought 18-24 months because the girls are on the small side - they are just getting into their 12-18 months now and they are 13 months.
