Hi all. I'm expecting twin girls on December 9th although my guess is they'll arrive sometime in November. I know I shouldn't be buying too many clothes ahead of time but since we just found out they're girls, I can't help myself with all of the great sales going on! My question is if I'm buying summer clothing for next year, would you suggest I buy size 3-6 months or size 6-12 months? Thanks for any advice you can offer!

I wish I had good advice, but I bought ALL the wrong sizes for this summer last summer. I had to RETURN EVERYTHING....thankfully to places that would let me! My boys were summer babies, so I bought 9-12 mos, figuring they'd be on the smaller side, but my guys are in 18 mos this summer! They're big boys & have been since birth! All the preemie clothes I bought sat there, except a few outfits from Walmart (they were bigger preemie for when they first came home) & most of my other 'guessed' clothes throughout the year didn't work. I had to go out & buy Christmas outfits because out of the huge selection I had, they were ALL 3-6 mos & mine were in 6-9 mos by that time! Frustrating, I tell ya!

So, just be careful. Be sure to buy from places that allow returns! If it's an outfit you LOVE, buy various sizes. I was so distraught returning all those cute outfits that I wish I had bought different sizes & just returned the wrong size!

Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy!!!!

I'd just buy big if I were you. My guys are tiny little peanuts still (10th percentile) and they are wearing 9-12 month clothes at 6 1/2 months.

it is so hard to say. I wish I had some good advice, It depends on how early they are born, how much they weigh at birth....and how fast they gain weight!!!

    Enjoy your sweet baby girls.

Oh and what you do buy, don't remove the tags....because if they are not able to wear them, you can get more money with resale if the tags are attached!

Honestly? There is absolutely no way to know. I had some kids at six months wearing six month clothes, others were in twelve months at six months old! It all depends on how big they are when they're born, how well the eat, what their natural growth curve is, etc. And there's no way to know if they'll both be in the same size or not. If you just can't resist buying a few things now, leave the tags on so if you can't use them, you can sell them at a MOM sale, ebay etc as new with tags. If you are wanting to do matching sets, those will sell even better at a MOM sale. Good luck choosing...it's so hard to pass up all the cute little girly clothes!

I agree, it's definetly so hard to know if they will or won't work. I did the same last summer, I bought a TON of stuff on sale for this summer and some of it we never wore :( At 8.5 months they are in 9-12 month clothing so not WAY off but bigger then I thought. Mine were 5lbs at birth and were in preemie size for quite awhile which when they were born I had none of so I had to go out and buy a bunch of stuff. Just make sure you keep tags on everything and keep recipets.

I wouldn't buy much. My girls are 7 months old and they are still wearing some 0-3 month clothes. I'm sick over all the clothes that were given as gifts that they'll never wear because they will be the wrong size at the appropriate season.

Ditto this. Mine were in some 0-3 months stuff at 6 months, and can fit into some 3-6 months stuff now, as well as 9 and 12 months stuff. Sizes vary so much by brand. We also have a lot of clothes that were gifts that just never got worn or worn just a few times because they were too big for the season.

That's a really tough one because you don't know what size they will be once they arrive. Mine were 6 lbs 1 oz and 4 lbs 8 oz and we were NOT expecting that size difference at all! The smaller one is wearing 0-3 months still.

But, if you really want to buy stuff, I would probably just get the 6-9 mos size. But it may be too small or too big depending. GL!

Have to agree with the pps. Each brand's sizing runs a little different. And it really depends on how big your kids are when they are born and how fast they gain weight. At birth one of my guys was 3%, the other wasn't even on the darn scale. At 4 months, one is almost 75%, the other is just under 50% and they are wearing about 6 months up from their actual age depending on the brand.

I went ahead and bought a few summer things for next year on sale this year. I am hoping they will fit. IMO, err on the side of caution and go a little big (because they can always wear something that is a little too large, but too small and you are just out of luck) and of course keep the receipts!

I would just buy it and return it buy some big some smaller sized stuff and keep reciept.. the worst that they will do is give you store credit but you obviously shopped once you can go again... just make sure it is a store you want to buy clothes from again!! ;) I do it all the time..

My girls are 3 months and are in 6month clothes!!! So... I just buy big sized stuff and save the reciepts!

    GOOD LUCK

It's so hard to buy ahead. Mine are almost 6 months, and DD wears 3-6 month or 6 month clothing and DS is moving from 3-6/6 month to 6-9/6-12/9 month sizes. I guess I'd say buy 3-6 and 6-9. That should run the gamut for the summer.

Good question, but most of what I bought was the wrong size. Both my babies have been wearing 6-9month clothes since they were 3months old. And now that they are 6mnths old, they are wearing 9-12months clothes!
The only thing I would say, was that we only had them in sleepers or onsies for the first 4-5months of their lives, so all those cute clothes I was given for 0-3months, well they didn't even get put on them, as it was just too much work. I am just now starting to explore the world of cute clothes for the babies, now that we don't have to change diapers every hour!

My advice would be to buy something they can possibly wear for more than one season. When I was pregnant I spent a bunch of money on really cute dresses and things from Gymboree - well a lot of the summer stuff I bought is STILL TOO BIG so I know it will never be worn - by the time the girls are big enough to wear it, it's going to be winter. GL!

You might have two different sized babies as well. My two kept up inside me at a similar pace and then just at the end one couldnt' keep up... they are still a pound different and 1.5 inches in height. Also my one girl looks amazing in that cool blue for girls and the other in different colours. so when they are born you will find the same, you will find some clothes to look better on one than the other. Then toys you will want so many toys for them too. Buy no-iron clothes -- you won't have time to iron. Nice p.js so even if they go out in them they will look nice. Sometimes you just don't have time to get them all dressed up pretty.

    happy shopping

Don't do it!! :p I wasted a ton of money buying sale stuff before the boys were born!! I bought fall clothes in size 6-12 - my due date was Feb 14, so I assumed that the boys would be 7 months adjusted age in mid-september, and 6-12 would get them through the fall. Well, my boys are 6 months old, and one wears 6-12month NOW, and the other wears 18-24 months NOW - there is an almost 4 pound difference between my boys, so they have been in different sizes for months. I'm probably going to be e-baying some of the cute gymboree sets that I bought for this fall... :(

I would look for 6-9 month sizes for the summer if I were you. The may be a little big in early summer but should be perfect for mid to late summer. Carter tends to run small, while Gap, Old Navy and Children's Place tend to run true to size.

My girls were due Feb. 2nd but came Dec. 31st at 35 weeks. They were 5lbs 3oz and 4lbs 12oz. Most of what my girls are wearing right now is Carters stuff in size 6month (which is equivalent of a 3-6 month in other brands) but mostly 9 month stuff now.
