I know for girls it is a 6 or 6x. Not sure about boys, but I would think it would be the same. That's usually where the cutoff is from the "toddler" clothes area to the bigger kids clothes area. My DD is right in between 5 and 6, so we go back and forth.

    Yeah, there's 6, 7, 8.

One thing to remember is that in the next 2-3 years, your son will do a lot more growing UP than OUT. My boys have basically stayed the same weight since they were 2 1/2 -3 years-old (they are now almost 6), but have grown up quite a bit. So, they still fit in a lot of the same clothes -- they have some 3T tees they still love, etc. Also, once he's out of diapers, the pants he's wearing now will be quite baggy, and fit for a while longer.

All that to say, I wouldn't buy too many clothes in sizes 6-8. Eventually he'll wear them, but maybe not as soon as you think. And by the time they are 5-6, they can be pretty particular about what they'll wear!

Yeah, I agree. My boys really haven't gained any weight at all in the last year but they are so much taller. They are in 5T shirts now but the shirts are a bit baggy on them. They are still in 3T pants, though, and have been for the last year. I have found that sometimes a boys' x-small will fit them pretty well. That is usually sized as 2-4. For socks, I have had to jump out of the baby/toddler section and buy them boys' medium socks for their giant caveman feet.

actually after 5T there should be a 5, the T is for toddler. A size 5 is a little longer and trimmer than a 5T.
    Then a 6, 6X, 7, 8, 9, etc. . . .

Hi, wanted to let you know that my boys are 3 and totally in this same situation. I buy size 6 from the "big" boy department! :D Or smalls. Extra smalls are marked 4/5, which is defeating the purpose of the size to me.

They are a little big, but I'd rather them be big at this stage where they want to dress themselves and get so easily frustrated when their shirts get 'stuck' on their heads or arms or wherever! They're only in size 4T shorts though. Although as fast as they're growing, I'm sure I'll have to find some slim size 5T's for height this fall.

Don't go looking for 6x in boys though, it is only a girls' size.

We moved out of the toddler section & into the big boys after that. Usually 4-5 or extra small in there fits good. They started off kinda big, but the boys liked it better that way.
Easier to get on & off. The only problem we had was with blue jeans. I did have to get those in slim fit to stay on their little butts.
