Clothes, clothes, clothes

So for their first year of life and beyond, my girls have been inundated with clothes. Apparently people love to buy for twin girls, because they have enough clothing for this summer to not wear the same thing for 3-4 weeks. That's between what they got for their birthday in March, things people bought on clearance at the end of last year, and things people buy - just because.

So DH's niece is our nanny. Her mom (SIL) calls today asking what size they wear since she's going shopping, she's going to buy them something. More clothes!!! The worst part of all that is that she's off work on disability due to having a hysterectomy, and asked DH to borrow money a couple weeks ago. He stopped lending money to brothers/sisters, so the answer was no, so I feel like I should say "stop buying clothes for my girls - they do not need them". It's very nice, but I feel awful that people do it when they don't need it and they can't afford it anyways.

Does anyone else have this happen? It's very nice, don't get me wrong. And I have really not needed to buy them anything clothes wise, except for pajamas, tights, shoes, stuff like that. I do anticipate that this fall I will need to do some heavy duty clothes shopping for them though. They have no fall/winter stuff in that size (so far), and no big occasion to have stuff bought for them for fall. So maybe I will finally get a chance to shop for them. :)

I have had a similar problem in years past (although not to the same degree) but this year it is quite the opposite. I have to do laundry every few days in order to have clean clothes to wear. K&K are going to their Nana's for a few days starting tonight and I had to pack every single article of clothing that fit in order to hopefully get them through the weekend. Don't have the money to buy clothes but I suppose I am not really helping myself doing more laundry, good thing water is included I guess so I just pay for the electricity and detergent etc.

Susan- my guys have way more clothes than they can wear too. I think I have bought the boys 2-3 outfits myself in 14mos. I really do appreciate the clothes b/c it does save me money but at the same time it's so wasteful b/c they rarely get to wear them all. Also I want to shop for my boys :)

I have learned that people are still going to buy clothes if they want to. I try to point out other things they can buy but if they insist on clothes I ask for larger sizes in a diff season or pj's. Good Luck!

One thing I do with all of the clothes is put them a way for a big childrens consignment sale that is held at our Expo center twice a year. I make some good $ off of them.

I had to recently whittle down the amount of clothes that all our kids have. I keep 2 weeks worth of clothes for each of the kids. Period. People would drop by with huge bags of clothes for the kids (which I was grateful for, don't get me wrong!) but so few of them would even fit or be in season. I gave away/threw away 5 stuffed full garbage bags of clothes.

We don't have an issue with people buying us clothes (that really only happened when they were newborns -- I returned a ton of stuff to Baby Gap and got a nice credit!), but people do give us lots of hand-me-downs. And I have a hard time letting go of any of it.

But they never seem to have exactly what I wish they had. (Funny -- I have the same problem with my own closet!) For instance, they have lots of dresses, but hardly any shorts. But then I feel like I can't justify buying anything, because they have so much stuff already -- even though I had no input into what stuff they wound up with.

Hmmm, I think I've just talked myself into a trip to the consignment store. ;)

ETA: Jenny, your 80s avatars are cracking me up!

We have so much clothes too! I packed for a week in San Antonio(which would have clothed them for 2 weeks) and they still had enough clothes to fill the suitcase again. We sold 90% of their baby clothes to consignment stores but we have so much that is their size. We still have clothes from last winter because they haven't out grown them

Between hand-me-downs, gifts, and the cute little outfits I can't resist buying :FIFblush: , the boys have waaaay too many clothes. I also find that they are outgrowing things so slowly - they are almost exactly in the 50th percentile fo height and weight, but they have a few 3-6 month shirts that they can still wear! So I keep adding to their closet and rarely take anything out of it. I've gotten to the point where I find it extremely sastisfying when I discover that they have outgrown something - it means I gain a bit more space in their closet!

Yep, same thing here! I just washed their 12 month clothing and am shocked over the amount of stuff they have to wear. The good thing is that they will be in that size probably starting in August and we have a good assortment of summer/fall but there is a TON of stuff. I drop hints whereever possible to let people know we are sooooo all set with clothes! It makes me feel bad in a way to think of how many people out there that would love to have 1/2 of what my girls have.

I feel the same about shopping for them. Although I'm not ready for the full expense myself, sometimes there are things I want to get but don't because they just need nothing. Oh well, I guess in a couple of years we may be wishing we still had this "problem". :D

I have boys but they have a walk-in closet, and 2 dressers full of clothes. Everyone - including my Mom's cleaning lady who I see 2 times a year when I visit NY buys them clothes. They have so many it is absurd! They also have every single toy in TRU and Target so its not like you can buy them toys either!

I just change the clothes several times a day - when they are dirty - so we can wear them all. I also did start asking for savings bonds instead of gifts or clothes b/c they already have everything. It was uncomfortable but people just stopped getting them gifts all the time and that is fine. X-mas and B-day's are all they need and clothes at those times will be OK..

The only person that really insists on buying clothes for mine is my mom. My MIL never buys them clothes unless she asks me first b/c she says she never knows what size to buy. I have to ask my mom to stop buying them b/c she really can't afford it and they don't need them! I will let her buy pjs when she hits the outlets though. For some reason we can never have enough pjs! I am pretty good at buying ahead at sales and try to keep track of what I have coming up in the next size. We were drowning in clothes the first year and they barely wore some of them! There are so many sleepers for Elizabeth that it's crazy!

Ditto on this! I'm so excited for them to grow out of some stuff! And also for it to be consistently hot enough that I can sort through all the cold-weather things and put the ones in the garage that I know will be too small by next fall.
