Hi, I have a question about cloth diapers. First, do any of you use them with your twins, and if so, what kind? I have been planing on using Chinese pre-fold with Bummis covers, but am not sure about doing this right from the start. I figure I'll probably just be in survival mode for the first few months. Other questions I have are: Do you use cloth exclusively? How do you travel, or just go out for a while? And in your opinion are they worth the amount your saving by not using disposable, or is it not worth the hassle? Also any time saving tips with cloth diapers would be appreciated. Thanks!

I use cloth on my twins. Generally if we're out and about, I just bring a wetbag for the wet'n'dirties. If we're going out of town overnight, I bring disposables.

I use a combination of prefolds and covers, fitteds and covers, all in ones, and pockets. In the early days, the prefolds and covers were best for stopping leaks. Now I prefer all in ones.

The cost savings is tremendous. My water bill has barely gone up, and I never have to buy dipes. It's great!

I use all in one/insert cloth diapers-my favorites are Happy Heiny's and Baby Kangas. For a while I used disposables, then cloth most of the time (except over night and trips) then my dh's aunt and uncle bought us several cases of disposables so we are using both...I use the cloth and my daycare providers use disposables...once those are gone it is back to cloth only.
For me, it is every bit as easy as disposables, much cheaper and better for the environment.
    Good luck CDing!!

Thanks! I think my DH thinks I am a little crazy for wanting to CD, but when I think of all the diapers we bought with just one... yikes! Besides, CDs are so cute now. One more question; Do you soak the diapers while they are in the pail, or just clean off solids and wash them once a day? Or can you get by with washing them every other day?

I have enough that I can wash every other day but I usually just throw them all in the washer at the end of the day and pull them out and hang them to dry over night so they are ready to go in the morning.
As far as the savings-I figured with twins over a three year span I would spend close to $12,000 on diapers and I spent about $400 on my stock of CD (I have the ones that grow with them) so the savings is GREAT!

I also use cloth - we use fuzzibunz. i use disposables at night - and also when we go out. I'm not THAT dedicated. Even so, we save a TON of money - I buy a pack of sposies like once a month or less! Also, you can sell your used diapers after you're done with them, so you can recoop some of the cost. Still, it doesn't compare. I am so glad we CD! (we did with DS too, so I was used to it!)

We used prefolds and Bummis from the very beginning. When we go out, we just bring a plastic bag to put the dirty ones in. It's really no big deal! Just a little extra laundry. And since we're saving thousands of dollars, it is DEFINITELY worth it!

I plan on using cloth, and I've been very surprised at the number of twin mammas that use cloth! At first I thought I was crazy for even thinking of it! My DH has been very supportive, but that's because I pitched it to him just right, I told him how much we'd save if I did "something". He was like "yeah, go ahead". Then I told him what that something was and he was still like "yeah, go ahead". I plan on using getting a variety from pre-folds on up, just to get a feel for which I want to end up using. Some web sites offer packages so you can try out a bunch of different diapers and covers then decide which work best for you. (Like on this site: http://www.cottonbabies.com/index.php) Also I plan on having disposables on hand for anyone who's helping or baby-sitting that might not want to use cloth. I want their help more than I want to press the issue.

I find that the only people who think I'm crazy are the ones that have never used cloth, or know very little about it. But it was the best idea I've come across to save money, and the more I looked into it the more reasons I found to do it! G/L!
