Hi ladies... I plan on using disposable diapers, but I would like to stock up on some cloth diapers just incase we are low on money and can't afford disposable diapers that week or month or whatever. Where should I purchase these? How do you use them? I would like them to be as easy to clean as possible. I really don't want to wash poopie diapers in my washing machine, I know you wash them out in the toilet or so my mom says. Is there anything easier now a days?

    Thank you.

There are lots of great websites where you can buy cloth diapers - I got mine at Green Mountain Diapers.

I've been doing nothing but CDs for my twins, and I love it. It is SO much cheaper than disposables. We've saved thousands of dollars! :a_smil09: Here's my system:

All diapers go straight into the diaper pail, which we have lined with a cloth bag. At the end of the day, we just dump everything from the cloth bag into the washing machine, turn the bag inside out and throw it in too. We also use cloth wipes, which go in with everything else. 1 cold wash, 1 super hot wash, dryer, and that's it! No fabric softener, and a minimal amount of fragrance & dye free detergent (too much soap can be harsh on baby bums).

I don't know if this is different if you're formula feeding, but if you're breastfeeding you definitely don't have to rinse diapers out in the toilet. They just go straight in the wash. (Don't worry, it doesn't make your washer poopy any more than dirty clothes make your washer dirty - it all washes away.)

When you start solids, you will have to put poop in the toilet, but it's easy, you just flip the chunks of poop in there, no dunking or soaking (unless there is a gargantuan smear of sticky, smeary poo mushed into the diaper).

    HTH :)

I CD my twins too--same laundry routine as fuschiagroan.

I use prefolds and covers during the day, and bumgenius one size, haute pockets one size, and baby koala one sizes at night.

I have 36 prefolds, 8 covers, 12 bumgenius, 6 haute pockets, and 2 baby koalas.

Of all the onesize diapers, baby koalas are my favorite.

    Thank you ladies!!!

Where did you get your diapers from? This seems so expensive, but I guess in the long run it's cheaper? What kind of diaper pail do you use? I am starting to like the idea of CD.... with the prefolds do you have to pin them with diaper pins?

I got mine from http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/index.html. I use prefolds and Bummis Super Whisper Wraps. I started out using the Diaper Champ pail, but HATED it, and just switched to a regular trash can with a flip-top lid, and it's great (no more odor than with the diaper pail). With prefolds, you don't have to use diaper pins - there's a gadget called the Snappi that's really quick and easy, and eliminates the need for diaper pins. (I'd be scared to use pins!)

CD seems expensive, but only because you pay for everything up front, instead of getting nickel and dimed for years with disposables. You can easily get ALL the diapers (and covers, and wipes) you'll ever need for $500, but disposables would cost thousands of dollars. If you look for used CDs on Ebay you can do it for even less, like maybe a couple hundred bucks.

    GL! HTH :)

I also had planned to cd my girls and did a ton of research. I know that i got pretty overwhelmed with all the choices and when tey were about 6 mos old i finally tried a few of the pocket diapers. i tried happy heinys and the bumgenius one size...the one thing i think is key is that if you're going to use any of the pocket dipes you should try a few different ones BEFORE you invest..I found that the happy heinys leaked on BOTH my girls (one of whom has chunky legs one of whom has skinny minny legs) I STILL haven't tried prefolds with snappis (I'll get there), but i know a lot of the diaper places sell what they call a 'sampler' pack so you can see what works/fits best.

And yes, it does seem expensive but over the long run you would definitely save money. good luck!

I am using Fuzzi bunz cloth diapers with my twins.
They are only 3 weeks old right now so we are in the x-small/preemie size of them. We use cloth during the day and disposals at night. We also cloth diaper my older son (Nov. 2005) who wears the fuzzi buns in a petite toddler size, he even still fits into the mediums. I have all of the diapers from when my son was smaller so I figured that I may as well use them for these 2 as well.
For the babies I don't rinse the diapers or anything, just toss them into the wash. For my older son I have a diaper sprayer that connects to the clean water line of my toilet to spray the poops out into the toilet, it was a great investment! I throw everything into a cloth lined diaper pail and wash it with a cold rinse, then a
hot wash cycle with an extra rinse at the end. Very little detergent, no fabric softener.
I got all of my diapering stuff from www.jamtots.com
If you want a one size diaper so you don't have to get different sizes the bumgenius 3.0s look great. I have a few of the 2.0s and really like them.
