I am sure all of you have been asked this before, but I am really looking for some help.

The twins are going to be our first children. I have some cloth diapers (about 4 dozen) and they are the fitted ones. I really would like to use them when the twins come home. Am I crazy???? I have had several people tell me that I am nuts, that I already have no idea of what I am in for with twins, let alone wanting to use cloth diapers. I know things are going to be crazy, but even with one baby and a new time mom things would be crazy!

Is it that much more work with cloth...really I will be doing alot of laundry anyways...what is a couple of more loads of laundry?

If any of you moms here can give me some advice that would really be great!

    Thank you so much,

    Christine

I'm sure it is doable, especially with as many as you have. Give it a shot, if it doesn't work out you can always buy disposables, right?

Everyone told me I was nuts too. I didn't (and still don't) think it's such a big deal. It's one load of laundry every other day and it's a load that doesn't even need to be folded or put on hangers. The way people talk, though, you'd think I had to go out in the river and beat them on rocks!

I agree - gotta try it yourself. I CDed my first and now the twins. I LOVE it! For me, it's just a little bit more work, but it's cheaper and more satisfying than constantly emptying a trash can full of stinky diapers.

I found using 100% cloth to be too much. But using 50% is doable. I usually time it so that I use cloth diapers once the stinkiest ones are out of the way for the day (sneaky, I know!) since my boys usually just have one dirty diaper each day.

I am getting the same responses from people, but I am still going to do it. I just cannot bring myself to throw all those diapers in landfills......not to mention the expense of disposables!! You can do it....

I think it's totally doable. I did a cotton diaper service for the first 6 months and now ash my own (fitted) diapers. I wish I'd done my own sooner.. it's much cheaper and not much more work. Plus the fitted ones seem so much more comfy for them than the pre-folds.
We DO use disposables when we go out, and before I started using the fitted cotton ones we also used disposables at night.
I say go for it! If it doesn't work out you can always sign up for a service or use disposables, if you're in a pinch!

I wish you luck! I tried prefolds and couldn't get the stupid things to fit right and ended up changing the girls clothes 25x more than they already were, in the end, I wasn't able to keep up. But fitteds might be easier? And I've now got a great stack of burp cloths!

thank you all for your advice! :)

It may be a little more work, but I am gonna give it a shot anyways! Even for a couple of months, it will save a good amount of money!!! :D

It is absolutely doable!! We love our cloth diapers...I wish we'd used them with our oldest. It makes the many diaper changes a day a little more fun, too. :) And you're right...you really don't notice the extra load of laundry every day or so (we wash diapers every other day). If you have any specific questions I'd be glad to try to answer them for you.

I personally read that it was much cheaper with twins to use cloth diapers and a service than it was to buy disposable diapers. that being said, I decided, I could not handle or deal wiht what's involved in cloth diapers. i would have loved to do them environmentaly, but for my sanity, we did not go that way.

We use the Fuzzibunz & love them, we didn't startuntil 2 months though even though we bought them during the pregancy because they were too small for the diapers & we were letting the initial crazyness die down some!! It's doable & definately cheaper!!

I LOVE CLOTH DIAPERING!!! We started about a month after they were born just so we could get the hang of having babies in the first place (they are our first)! I knew I was going to use them, but wanted to wait a bit anyway :) WE started with Fuzzi bunz but our one little chunky monkey's legs out grew the smalls FAST! So we are now trying Pocket Change, the legs are more roomy. BTW its super fun and not more than a load every other day now (used to be every day) our little girl is still in her size small Fuzzi Bunz. Good luck and I've found that if you visualize doing it and know that you want to, you'll do it and it won't be a big deal. We are 100% cloth, even at night and away from the house!

I did find a couple of websites while I was researching CD. They show you how to sew your own. So if you're handy with a sewing machine...

Also, if you are in a sewing mood, here's a site that shows you how to make your own shopping cart cover.

Thank you Her Royal Jennyness...I checked out these sites and I am very excited to try and make some of these!

You are SOO not crazy!! I have a 17 month old and 3 month old twins, and I CD all three of them! I would be paying around $225/month for diapers since I wash about 30 a day. It is so easy! And fun! :) PM me if you have any questions! :)

you're not crazy! we've been doing cloth with our twins since they were a 2 weeks old. We started using them during the day and did disposables at night for awhile then transitioned to cloth at night too. We use prefolds/covers during the day and pocket diapers or fitted/covers at night. I had my doubts about cloth when i found out it was twins but decided to commit to it since it is so much more cost effective. I usually do a load either daily or every other day and often hang them to dry outside then pop them in the dryer a little bit to fluff them up. it's been working out great for us and we really like cloth. Even DH likes cloth better too and he was very reluctant at first. good luck!

Another one who CD's twins!! I started when they were 6 months, but I wish I would've done it sooner. I have fuzzi bunz, Haute Pockets, Swaddlebees, and I have my chinese prefolds (which I LOVE, just had to find the right fold) with my cute covers.

The laundry isn't that big of a deal. I do them every other day.

    ROTFL!!!! :rotflmbo:

    I love it!

I did cloth for the first month...my mom purchased a few months of a laundry service, the picked them up once a week. I found that that was not often enough for us so we now use both cloth and paper...and I wash them myself...good thing we live so close the the river's egde! ;)
