So I just put in a bunch of orders to Kellyscloset.com. I ordered a 24 promo pack of Bumgenius 3.0s. We got the diaper sprayer, some detergent, 2 wet bags (1 travel size), and cloth wipes. We figure we spend about $100/month on diapers and wipes. Everything I ordered today was only $475, less than what we'd spend in 5 months. Supposedly they can fit up to 35lbs, so hopefully they last long enough to go through potty training. We heard the Velcro sometimes wears out. I'm hoping we like these!! We have a 45 days period that we can try and if we don't like them, they will refund us completely.

Anyone else use Bumgenius 3.0's? Or any cloth diapers??

We are sort of trying them out. I bought a sampler pack from Diaper Junction which included a BumGenius, a FuzziBunz, a Kissaluvs (I think?) fitted diaper, several prefolds, and a waterproof cover. We also ordered another brand that I had heard about, but the name escapes me now. We haven't really done a full day of cloth diapering yet, just used one here and there. We are moving to North Africa so we are thinking that we'll do sort of half and half or 3/4 cloth and 1/4 disposables over there since we'll have live in help that can aid in keeping up with the dirty diapers and laundry! I am leaning towards going with a fitted or contour diaper with a cover as I have heard that if you are willing to do a little extra work with them (using Snappis to put on and then a cover) that they are a lot cheaper and also easier to fit to the babies.

Hope that you like the BumGenius....good deal that you can return them if you don't like them so you get a good month trial period!

We do cloth about 3/4 of the time and use a combination of prefolds or flats snappied with a cover (Flip, Econobum or Blueberry), and Bumgenius 3.0 AIOs. We have a couple of very reliable poopers on our hands, so I usually throw a sposie on them around the time I expect a poo and I'm usually right, lol. And I'm lazy, obviously, ha. We've also been using sposies when we leave the house for some reason because their pants don't seem to fit real well over the fluff. I'm buying their shorts larger this summer. I am really liking the BG AIOs these days because the kids wriggle so much and the prefold w/cover is hard to get on. I'd love to add some more BGs to my stash.

I have some BG 3.0 but I prefer the BG organics with snaps. They seem to hold up better and I don't like velcro. Great to hear that you got a trial period. I wish I would have gotten something like that because I have gone through a lot of different diapers. I personally don't like how you stuff the 3.0 especially when you compare them to the fuzzy buns but that being said they will definately do the job and save money :)

We're using Fuzzibunz one sized diapers. I like them after I put the longer insert in them instead of the shorter ones. My two must be heavy pee-ers!

We also use Bum Genius, Fuzzi Bunz, and pre-folds. We have some HautePockets, but I've found they are not very absorbent. I think you'll love cloth diapering. We use them 100% of the time, and just throw them in our wet bag when we're out and about. And the diaper sprayer is a must, I think. Our guys are 8 months old now, and our diapers still look brand new. I can tell the velcro is going to eventually wear out on the BG, but that can be fixable when it happens.

For detergent, I love Rock'n Green. We started with the Fuzzi Bunz detergent, but I think Rock'n gets the pee smell completely out (sometimes you could still kind of smell it after the wash and before the dryer - but not with Rock'n).

Cloth wipes are also awesome if you decide to dive in completely  . You can buy them or just make some out of cotton flannel. We keep ours in the wipe warmer to keep them wet and then you just have to pull one out. I can clean the nastiest poopy diaper with just one cloth wipe, where I would have used 3 or 4 disposable wipes.

    Good luck!

Thanks for that advice! I only ordered 30 cloth wipes, but I was wondering if it's possible to make your own (I figured it was). I will have to look around here for cotton flannel. The ones we ordered are only 8x8 so I'm not sure if they will be too small to handle big messes.

Right now we ordered the Bumgenius detergent cause there was a deal on if you spent $10 in BG, Flip or Eco (I think) you get a free Bumgenius AIO. However, the Rock'n was the one I was considering. After spending all that money yesterday we earned $518 points through Kellyscloset.com which is enough points to get a $30 gift certificate for free, so I figured I'll use that to start ordering more detergent :) Do you have a favorite scent in the Rock'n??

I'm another BG 3.0 user - that is the main part of my stash and even though the velcro did wear out... they are still our favorites! My quick fix for velcro is to purchase a yard of sewable velcro. cut the hard sticky part into 3 or 4 inch strips... and then I just layer it on top of the velcro tabs across the front of the diaper if that makes sense... our velcro tabs kind of flare out and the kids would just peel the velcro loose... anyway this helps to keep it all together. If they don't have the extra velcro strip across the diapers tend to sag and fall off... sounds worse than it is. our diapers are almost 2 yrs old, and I have had to replace the elastic in the legs too... there is a tutorial on that at www.diaperswappers.com

anyway, about wipes. YES you can make them. Here's my latest "pattern"... I like to cut the cotton flannel into 6x8 rectangles... I cut them with the fabric folded... and then serge (you could zig zag) two pieces together... so that they are double sided! I really like the wipes I have that are two thick, in fact I've about converted all my wipes to 2 thick ones. Any of my friends who cloth diaper get a set of wipes. In fact I'm making some now... basically I was able to cut 12 (double sided ones) from 1 yard of material... so thats 12 for less than $4

anyway... a side note... I also LOVE making "face wipes" too... I make sure to get a cute material that is different from the diaper wipes... and make sure to never use them on bottoms... there is some CUTE material out there.. and I'm a bit addicted... anyway, I must have 60+ diaper wipes and about the same for face ones... love the monkeys w/bananas for faces... my boy says "ooooh ooooh" when I come at his face w/the face wipe! for monkey!

    good luck!

if you are handy with a sewing machine... you might think about making wet bags... I was able to find the PUL material needed to make those too... for me, its nice to have extra wet bags laying around... and wetbags can be used for more than just diapers.

welcome to cloth diapering! I can't say for sure that the diapers will fit at 35 pounds, b/c our twins are barely at 25 pounds, but they still fit the diapers now and once we got the elastic worked out there are no leaks in the 2 yo PUL material so IMO they are holding up great. I bet I only have $500 in my stash... and I've been using it for 22 months... versus $2200...?

We do cloth as well and love the bum genius.
I often try and let mine air dry to help save some wear and tear on the velcro.

I recently invested in some fuzzibuns one size, and they are my favorite so far. We were using disposables for night time, but I can put two inserts in the fuzzibuns, and they stay dry all night!! So now we are not really using disposables at all! It's great. It's saving us tons of money.

ETA: I also make my own wipes, but I just use old socks or any other material and cut it into wipe-size squares. They are ugly, but they get the job done. lol.
