We are about 3 months out from meeting our two boys and I'd like to start purchasing some of their cloth diapers so we're not buying them all right before birth. I am definitely planning to use the all in ones, but some are specifically sized and some are one size fits all.

So, anyone use them and have a definite preference? Any brands that seem to work better for you over the long run?

    TIA

All of ours are pocket diapers.

Pros - they are quicker to dry b/c the absorbancy liner comes out and dries w/o being up against the PUL waterproof material.

Cons - you have to stuff them.

For the beginning I used the BumGenius 3.0s they come with a newborn insert and regular sized one. At the beginning you just use the small one and snap down the diaper so that its on the smallest setting. We started using ours when the babies were a month old after we'd gone through all the disposables people had given us. They were under 10 pounds and they worked really well.

We only had 22 to begin with... you really do need more... we were washing almost every day... time consuming.

I wanted some extra diapers so I wouldn't have to wash so much and got 11 more recently, now I can wash only 2 times a week - its great.

My extra diapers I got are Drybees... they are ok... I think what I got were nighttime ones... they are sized Large - I figured since they are now almost 20 pounds I didn't need to get the one size feature since we didn't need to have them be down to a 7pounds size... They aren't my favorites, but they work fine. I did get some Hybrids... they are All-In-Ones in that they have a thick microfiber liner sewn to the inside of the diaper, but its also a pocket so you can add more. its kind of a neat feature. BUT... they do take longer to dry. I only have three of these and find myself kind of turning them inside out to finish an extra 15 minutes in the dryer to dry.

I like the pockets b/c you can choose to add extra absorbancy to the night time ones or naps or whatever... but the all-in-ones are easy to just put on. another thing you should look into is velcro vs snaps. I will say that my BumGenius velcro hasn't really held up... we put an extra hard strip on the top of our tabs to keep it all together... and have to have the babies in a onesie or shorts so they don't pull them off... I think there are snap choices now that would be nice.

When I bought our main stash a year ago I only found 1 choice for one-sized pocket diapers - BumGenius. I believe there are several more choices out there now. Whamies and all sorts.

Another huge saver of money and bums is using cloth wipes. I hemmed flannel squares and put them in a wipes warmer with water. I bet if you don't sew that you could get some very thin fleece and just cut it... fleece doesn't seem to ravel..

    good luck.

My fave all time diapers were pre folds with these covers (the cheapest :) ) http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.p...;products_id=97 And snappis of course.

But I use the bum genuis 3.0all in one one size. I also have only 22. I'm thinking of getting some bigger prefolds to help ease the load.

They both worked great and I've never had a blow out with either, but have been let down by every disposable I've used.

Love to double stuff the BG's at night. Those thing can hold so much!

I had to use diaper cream before I could order liners so I got creative. I took a receiving blanket that had a bad stain, cut it into strips and used those as liners until I could get some better ones. Some times I'd just toss them, sometimes I'd wash them. I still have a few from another blanket I cut up (my husband was upset at first, then told me to cut up another when he saw them in action. We had so many blankets!) Now I use them when my cloth wipes run out (just baby wash cloths)

    GL!

Cloth diaper user here! I use prefolds and covers right now. Night time is a disposable till they get into mediums then I use pockets. I do have some fitteds laying around. I like the simpleness of prefolds and covers. There are days we go w/o a cover and I love the look! Sorta old fashioned. I do cheat and use a snappi instead of pinning. I am pin challenged

I stay away from the onesize types cause most go to 30-35 lbs and my ds is still in diapers at 38lbs so I would still have to buy large diapers so I dont think I would be saving any more money. One size is a way to go if you don't want the hassle of buying sized diapers. They do cost more, but I hear in the end you save.

I know alot of mamas who use fitteds and go coverless at home cause the prints of the fitteds are pretty cute!

AIO (all in ones) are great b/c all you have to do is put the diaper on and velcro it shut or use snaps. The down side is it takes longer to dry. The upside is the convenience. No covers needed.

Pockets as the pp said are great. You can adjust the absorbency as needed by how much you put in the pocket. They do dry quickly! Downside, you have to stuff! I use pockets and stuff with a premium prefold or an infant prefold. I stay away from microfiber inserts cause I don't like it. I love hemp inserts tho! Awesome absorbency!

If you want a cheap stash, then prefolds and covers are the way to go. You can use PUL covers or fleece or wool. All 3 materials work great! Wool can be interlock or knitted. Some mamas knit shorts or pants as covers. I like fleece the best. Wool can get expensive tho.

If you need anymore help, please feel free to PM me. I know of a great web site to send you too. It can be very overwhelming to start but don't be afraid to ask questions. Thats how I learned all about cloth diapering!

We didnt start CDing until my twins turned 1 (and their dad finally agreed).
We use sposoeasy AIOs made by blue penguin. We also use the growing greens one size diapers with Bummis covers. I like them all!
Personally I would love to have ALL AIOs as they are the easiest but they are the most spendy.

I bought alot of our diapers second hand from www.diaperswappers.com

We have approx 40-50 diapers, and 10 covers. I do diaper laundry every other day or so.

I agree completely. I love my BG3.0s and cloth wipes with foaming diaper spray from Punkin Booty. Love 'em   We've been using them from 2 months on and they really do grow with the babies. In the beginning they look huge, but they really grow into them. GL!

Thanks for all the advice so far; it's definitely helping me get a handle on what I need. Did anyone use them from the very beginning, or was it too much of a pain with those first gross diapers I remember with my son?

Also with the pre-folds I see it's the Chinese or Indian. Most things say the Indian is less bulky, is it as absorbent, or is that the catch?

    Thanks again!

Here's the comparison I used. I got some of both and liked the chinese better. http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.p...;products_id=89 (you'll have to scroll down a bit)

We are currently using our Bum Genius 3.0's for our little dude. They work well for him, but I do double stuff them as otherwise we'd be changing him every hour. Our little girl is big for her age, and although the BG are supposed to go up to 35 pounds, and she is nowhere near that, they still cut into her thighs. We started using fuzzi bunz for her, and I honestly love them so much better than the B.G. The snap closures are way better, as the velcro wears out, and I love the fact that you can make adjustments for chunky thighs. If I could go back in time, I probably would have just bought a pile of fuzzi bunz.

We've also used Chinese prefolds with prowrap covers (not a big fan), and the Bum Genius bamboo fitteds with different covers (lite wrap or something). Loved the bamboo fitteds and the other covers (they have them on cottonbabies.com), but again, they're bamboo so the baby will feel wetter. Probably good with potty training though.
