I just read another post that asked several questions--one being about Clorox to clean high chairs.
Most responses said NO, don't use them.
    Ooooooops.....

I've been using the Clorox wipes for a couple months now. I clean all of their toys every other night with the wipes.
I also clean the exersaucer & jumperoo with the wipes. They slobber over everything and stuff flies around the family room
and with the dog and the flu season all around us, well, I guess I just feel that the wipes are getting everything really clean.

If the Clorox/Lysol/Clorox Hard Surface Cleaner/Etc. is bad. WHAT SHOULD I USE to clean the toys, exercauser, and jumperoo?

    Thanks everyone!

Our NICU nurses said those were what they suggested. I'd love to know if there is a better option too!

I use Clorox Anywhere Spray. I doubt there is much difference between the spray and the wipes. I would still use them if I were you.

I also use the Anywhere spray because it says it's safe for use around pets or children. I just spray a paper towel and use it like a wipe.
But I don't spray down their hairchair. I just wash the trays with warm soapy water in the sink.

They are completely different chemicals. The spray is just very dilute bleach. After it evaporates, it is fine. The wipes are Similar chemicals to Lysol spray, you don't want to ingest them. If you use them on anything to go in the mouth, you need to do a water rinse first. That's why the directions say a potable water rinse is required for food contact. They just weren't thinking of baby slobber!

    Thanks everyone!

Maybe I'll try the anywhere spray. I haven't used anything on the high chairs yet. But, man, have I wiped
the heck out of the toys using those Clorox Wipes!!!! And, no water follow up!
I'm glad to hear others are using them too!
I've never been much of an "organic, all natural, from the zest of a lemon" kind of cleaning person.
I always used the strongest, most chemically filled, potent, cleaners out there for my house. But, now
that I have kids, I'm thinking a little differently.
    Thanks!

Ugh! I hate bleach, clorox wipes, etc. I would rather have germs than harmful chemicals all over everything. I wouldn't use the anywhere spray either as that contains harsh chemicals too. I clean with a spray called babyganics. It is an organic spray that has no harsh chemicals. I use it to clean off our kitchen table and their toys when they were little. You can find it at BRU and I've seen it at diapers.com You can also use vinegar and water solution as well.

i use diluted lysol 4 in 1 in a spray bottle to do highchairs. their toys i run through the dishwasher, the bigger toys i use the diluted lysol again. im not a doctor or anything but it seems okay to me? the daycares i worked at (3 of them) used the spray antibacterial lysol spray for all their bigger toys. .

I'm like this too. When I clean the sink or something, I always feel like I have to wash my hands much more thoroughly after touching the cleaner than I do after blowing my nose.

I also don't use organic cleaners or homemade ones very much -- mostly I used soap & water on things like the high chairs.

I basically never clean their toys (not even when they were babies), unless someone has a tummy bug -- in which case everything plastic got run through the dishwasher on sanitize.

FWIW, my kids have had plenty of colds (which I blame mostly on being in daycare), but have almost never been seriously ill.

I cleaned with water, sometimes a little soap or fancy-schmantzy earth friendly kitchen cleaner (7th Generation - the rest of the house, I use the old-fashioned toxic stuff, but cooking/eating surfaces I'm very conservative). I never cleaned toys. I can count on one hand the number of times the kids have been sick, and they're almost 2 yrs old now. My "sanitizing" regime has always been just plain old hand-washing: whenever anybody enters the house, they wash their hands.

I'd also be more worried about all the chemicals in household cleaners than germs. We're supposed to get exposed to germs, that's what our immune systems are for. We're not "designed" for modern industrial chemicals.

I worked at a daycare and according to the state regulations if toys are kept untouched for 24 hours majority of the germs will die naturally. Also, vinegar and water is a natural disinfector. Also on on of the shows like Oprah or something they recommended cleaning toys with vinegar and water as well as toothpaste. I would never use anything that wasn't all natural after watching a movie on a study on how harmful cleaning products are. Most schools in my area are turning green and no longer use products like bleech. SHAKLEE makes an all natrual disifector that can kill the same things as bleech including HIV and is the product that I use. It is also extremely cost effective since you can make like something crazy like 200 bottles for $10, since the product is highly concentrated and and 1 tablespoon makes a whole bottle. It was on oprah and one as her favorite products. I have been using all of their products for a year and love them.

I second this! I am the same way. I do use Purelle sometimes when I am out and about and cannot wash my hands. I will use a wipe first (always Seventh Generation) and then purelle. I use Seventh Generation wipes for my babies. When they first came home from the hospital I rinsed the wipes out with warm water before touching them to the babies because I didnt even want that stuff on their skin.

Recently I have changed all of my laundry soaps over to Charlies Laundry Soap. It is awsome! No scent but the smell of Really Clean Laundry! The best! I try to avoid bleach but instead soak with two scoops of Charlies and it works great.

Just my 2 cents but it is possible to overclean! Your babies slober is just that, baby slobber! They wont' get sick from it! I only clean down toys if someone is sick, but my kids are rarely rarely sick. I do use the Chlorox anywhere if something nasty comes up, (like my dog puked on the highchair seat!!) and i think it's fine if you let it dry!

Ok girls at the end of the post, you've convinced me! Maybe I AM overcleaning.
Which is weird because my husband and I have been really laid back about all of the
"anti-bac" craze, we aren't even that obnoxious about cleaning everything. We make
fun of our friends for being so "clean crazy." Now it seems that I might be a little clean crazy! :p
I'll stick to wiping the toys down every few days with some hot water and maybe a little bit of mild
    soap.
Thanks everyone! It did make me feel better to read that the germs aren't as intense as I thought
and that they might even go away on their own.
