Clomid and Identical Twins?

I took clomid to conceive. I found out I was preggo with twins at about 8 weeks along. They have two placentas and a membrane. Yesterday, the nurse said the membrane was very thin.

My question is, is there anyone here who conceived identical twins on clomid? I guess I want to know if I have much of a chance for identical twins since the membrane is now very thin.

    TIA! :)

I am not to sure about this, my friend was on clomid too.. But doesn't clomid help produce more eggs? If so, I would think they would be fraternal, from 2 eggs. Just guessing tho, :winking0009:

I am sure it's possible that one egg was fertilized and then split! I don't remember reading any stories about it on here....

Anything is possible BUT clomid wouldn't "produce" identical twins like Blastocyst transfers from IVF would... I have my ID's and I had IVF- one blastocyst hatched and made my ID boys!! We knew right away tho at 7 weeks cuz they shared a sac AND placenta!! There was no question there.

Clomid would not be the cause if you have ID's, Clomid only increases your chances of fraternals. Congrats!

Thanks ladies, that's what I thought too. She seemed so certain that it was identicals yesterday. She was the one that prescribed me the clomid and knew I had taken it to conceive.

If your twins are identical it is purely a coincidence, but very possible. Clomid would not be the cause though. Congrats, and good luck!

We are still debating on whether ours are fraternal or identical. When my OB first started seeing me he was saying all along they are fraternal because of the clomid. But after they were born and he saw the placenta he is now convinced they are indentical and it was just purely a coincidence. We are going to do the zygosity test to find out for sure!! Good luck to you!!

Mine are clomid, and obviously frats, although their placentas did fuse and the u/s tech wasn't so sure. I was actually hoping for frats. These were going to be the last babies for me and I wanted to see how DH and I would combine in two different ways. :)

Identical only refers to your genes, it doesn't mean you look identical. My twin and I are identical but don't look that much alike anymore... people are always surprised when we say we're identical... We had a DNA test to confirm our zygosity..

That's cool but my vote is still frats on that one.. Just my opinion.. We can all have those right? I think identicals ALWAYS look pretty similar.. Enough to know they are identical at least mine do and my id twin cousins do and my id neighbors also... My identical college roommates also.. Every set of ids i've seen on here- I could tell were ID also..

You can definitely have your opinion- I'm sorry if I sounded preachy, I honestly didn't mean to... I guess I'm a little sensitive to the whole you must look alike to be identical because of how people react when I tell them my twin and I are identical- some people don't believe us...clearly my issue, so I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend or come off like a know it all!

Thanks for understanding! Here's a picture of my sister and I when were 2 or 3 (I'm on the left)...

    2 or 3 years old

Here we are just a couple of years ago... It's not the best picture (it's the only one I have right now) I think we look less and less alike as we get older...

    I'm on the right

I wish it was still that way  but I'm still hanging on to some of the twin weight and she's lost all of hers!

Hi, I'm usually a lurker on this board but I wanted to chime in and say that I took clomid the cycle I got pregnant and I'm almost positive that my girls are ID. We were worried at first about a mo-mo pregnancy but finally found a thin membrane so my peri was certain that mine were monochorionic and monitored us for TTTS. I suppose it is much more likely to have fraternal twins with clomid but it is still possible for an egg to split and produce ID twins. I don't think that clomid influences the likelihood of nonozygotic twins in either direction.

Also, my babies look a lot alike but I don't think they look exactly "identical"- one is a bit larger and has more hair, and one has a slightly different head shape due to her breech position in utero.
