I need help!! For the past 2 weeks, the same milk duct keeps getting clogged. I managed to unclog it 4 times now. Today it is clogged again. Does anyone know how I can keep the duct unclogged? So far I have been able to unclog is by feeding in different positions, pumping and warm compresses. Once I unclog it, the next day it gets clogged again.

I really need a remedy on how I can prevent this from happening over and over again? Yesterday my breast hurt so much that I wanted to stop breastfeeding altogether.

I never had any issues with clogged ducts. :hug99: I'm sorry it is reoccuring! I hope it gets better and stays away. Nurse as much as you can on that side!

One thing you might check is whether or not the duct is plugged at the nipple. I was having this issue. I had a little white blister looking thing on my nipple where the milk had dried up and therefore one whole milk duct was blocked. I kept getting it. I think the reason was that sometimes I would have a little milk left on my nipple and I just put my bra and pad on without thinking. To make it better I now make sure that I clean off my nipple with a wet rag and dry it a little before covering it up.

Thanks for all the tips! I think it was clogged at the duct. I had a white spot there. I finally got rid of it and everything seems to be all better now.

Yesterday my breast hurt so much that I wanted to stop breastfeeding altogether. -------First, warm wet heat worked best for me. Drink more water and use the compress on each breast right before you latch on. I use it pretty hot. If it clogs mid feed, stop what you're doing and use the compress again. A hot shower before each feed usually works. If you're that sore prevention is key. Hang in there! Lots of liquids--especially water. If you're large breasted, you may be able to immerse the breast in the sink. This works great.

    HI,

Do you happen to pump? I found that if my funnels weren't positioned exactly right, I'd get plugged ducts. Just a thought

*sigh* I'm still getting the clogged milk duct. It happened again last night. The white spot is back again. It's been 3 weeks now happening between 2-4 days after I get it unclogged. It's extremely frustrating because it keeps coming back and I can't figure out what is cauisng it. I made an appointment with a breastfeeding clinic on Weds. I want to breastfeed for at least a year and I don't think I can last another 11 months with this problem.

I find that if I feed my babies in the cradle position, it gets clogged too. If I use the football hold, it seems to keep it unclogged. It's so hard using the football hold especially when you are out and about. Cradle position is easier to cover up.

I find that I am having to use warm compresses and put my breast in hot water before it comes unclogged. (Thanks for the tip Bigmama) It's hard doing that especially when it's in the middle of the night. I just want to feed them and go back to sleep.

I didn't know that pumping can cause you to get a clogged milk duct as well. I always make sure to position my breast right in the middle of the funnel. I figured that was the right way to do it. Do you know which is the best pay to position it momalicious?

Do you think you have an oversupply of milk? Your body is still trying to regulate to the supply & demand of your babies so things should be in sync soon. Just wondering if your switching your babies to nurse on different sides?

I am having this problem too, and I'm mostly pumping -- it only happens on my right breast, which is the super producer -- I thought maybe I wasn't emptying it sufficiently? I dunno -- it's so painful, though, and keeps me from sleeping because it just throbs. Ugh. I use really hot compresses and massage, and that works, although the soreness is still there....

    Hope you figure it out!

I went to the breastfeeding clinic yesterday and got some answers. I am getting a re-occurring milk bleb/blister. It keeps coming back because of my daughter. She was born with a tooth on her bottom gum. Not sure how it happened, but the pediatrician told us when she was born that said some babies are born with a tooth. I didn't know that this could potentially cause breastfeeding problems.

Now I have to keep checking to make sure the bleb doesn't come back, if it does, I have to clear it out right away. Otherwise, the milk gets backed up on that duct. LC also said to make sure to use warm compresses. I'm hoping that as she gets to be a better feeder that she stops pressing on that duct.

Anyone else have their son or daughter born with a tooth with breastfeeding problems?
