climbing out of their cribs

Hello all! Need a little advice....the boys are to the point now where they have figured out how to get out of their cribs. We have had the mattresses on the lowest setting for a long time, so there's nothing else we can do about that. My brother watches the boys for now, and so the first time it happened it kinda freaked him out b/c their room is upstairs and he hadn't put a gate up at their doorway or anything. (We have a capecod, and the upstairs rooms don't exactly have doors.) This just started about 4-5 days ago, so of course it's something new and they want to do it all the time. They have mostly been ok when we put them down for the night, but during the day they hardly nap because all they want to do is climb out.(Except tonight, they both got out 2x and Alex got out a third!) So I have a few questions to go along w/this:

Is this just a phase that will pass? How long might it last? Is it too early for toddler beds? They won't be 2 until the end of Feb. Surely they still need at least 1 nap a day? But if they are constantly getting out of bed, how can you get them to nap? Anyone have tricks or suggestions about how to try and keep them in place? All help is much appreciated in advance!! Thanks!

2 words "Crib Tent!" I think that they will be your best bet to keep them safely contained and they can get some rest instead of climbing. I know that Babies R Us sells them under Cozy Crib Tent.

I would go with a crib tent. Mine have had them for a very long time and they work great!

I would also get a crib tent if you aren't ready for beds yet. If they go into beds it will most likely put an end to naps atleast for a little while. It also might make putting them to bed at night a little harder especially if they enjoy getting out of their. Crib tents are great and all my kids loved them on their cribs.

I also agree with the crib tent, we had to get one for DS and it was a lifesaver! My DH was gone at the time so I told DS that his dad had built him his own special fort. He loved it so much that I swear he liked taking naps in his fort. We only needed it while at my parents house, he hasn't figured out how to get out of his own crib yet but we have it on standby just in case.

I agree with the crib tent. Look at it this way, if they don't listen to "stay in the crib", how will they ever listen to "stay in the bed"? Jonathan loved his crib tent--Marcus never had one since he never climbed out.
