This morning, Ivy wanted me to carry her up the stairs. I told her my back was too tired. She had a fit. I told her, "Here are your choices. You can go up holding hands with me, or you can go up all by yourself. What do you think?"

    Her answer? "I NOT think!"

    Heehee. Funny girl.

If that had happened at our house, and DH overheard me giving those choices, he would inevitably say, "Are you trying to reason with the 2-year-old again?"

After stamping her feet and doing her little punching bag thing (latest tantrum behavior is boxing at an invisible punching bag), she decided that going up holding hands was better than being cruelly abandoned on the frozen tundra at the foot of the stairs.

And don't worry, that's about as far as my attempts at reasoning with them go!

(And thank goodness I also have a laid back, sweet, mellow little boy who (for now) is not into turning every. little. thing into a power struggle. So funny, for a while he was the demon child who loved being naughty on purpose, and now he's just "oh, OK" about everything.)

    Funny!

That "choices" thing has never worked so well for us. We often get "I don't like dose choices!" I still give choices, but mostly to make it clear that if they refuse to choose, then it's not my problem if they have a tantrum.
