Okay here's my issue.... When my boys were born the docotr curcumsized them used a new tecnique. She put a piece of plastic around the tip of there penis and held it on with a string and as it grew it was to fall off. Well it looked like it was deformed or something and I asked there peds doctor was it done correctly and she said yes. The head of the penis has more meat on one side then the other. There dad said it doesn't seem right but the doctor keeps saying it's nothing wrong with it. Well this morning I noticed that the tip was really red and looked swollen . I had his dad look at it ans I was right it is swollen, so my questions are:

    1. Has any one had this procedure done on there son before?
    2. Has any ones son penis looked like this and if so what was the issue and how and when did it go away.

I am gonna call the nurse in the morning to see if they need to be seen or what, but any help would gratly be appreciated.

    Thanks...

I haven't had this procedure done, but i didn't like the look of my son's penis after he was circumsized and got a referral from his pediatrician to see a pediatric urologist. It was covered under our health insurance.

I'd go to the Dr. Why drag it out like that??? I can't imagine it's worse to just get it over with. On that note... one of my sister's sons had to be "re-circumsized" Just demand a traditional circ. and get it over with (it heals in days). JMO!

I know I think that's what I'm gonna do andjust make them check it again and ask them to do it over. Thanks for the advice...

I just wanted to say that recently my youngest had a red penis that by the next nappy change had gone a purple colour (TMI sorry) my DH took him to emergency and they gave him antibiotics and a cream to put on it he said that he often saw penis and foreskin infections. He wasnt in any pain. Hopefully the nurse will give you some peace of mind when she comes tomorrow.

it's called a plastibell and some doctors will only do that method. i was just talking to a friend the other day whose son was done that way and she was very unhappy with the results. they had to see a pediatric urologist to make sure everything was okay. i would recommend not waiting and seeing the urologist soon.

I really hope it's nothing wrong with it, because I asked them over and over again was it okay, was it done right. I really thing they should give parents a choice not just taking upon themselves and doing what they want. Plus it wasn't the ped.'s doc. who performed it it was my obgyn who did it.I've never heard of that before either....

We haven't circum, but in our case our ob would have done it as well, at the hospital.

My sons had the plastic deal as well. It did look weird and turned purple too but they healed perfectly fine. Their pedi did them.

All of my boys were circumcised. After a few months he needed to go to the urologist because the skin healed to much over the circumcised area. The doctor gave him this steroid cream that I had to apply twice a day. It striped the skin down that was over-healed. It did not hurt him at all. It was just a white cream much like diaper rash cream. He will be going in for his follow-up next month.

With the twins, one of them had a condition the hole was not at the top where it should be but down on the side, this made him always pee through the top of his pamper. Before I left the hospital, the doctor told me that my son would need surgery. Fortunately, after a few weeks at home the situation corrected itself and he does not need surgery at all.

I don't know how old your babies are but if they are newly born I would wait a couple of weeks to see if it corrects itself. If not, then by your babies first doctors appointment, I would let the pediatrician give her recommendation.

If that's the plastibell, that's actually an old method from our experience. (Our old man OB-GYN used that method with our first DS. It turned out fine. But it was weird at first, and we took him to the ped to get it checked out.)

Otherwise, a method known as the Gomco is most widely used, I believe.

We're having circ problems here too. Ugh, just talking about it makes me nauseated and makes me second-think our choice to have this done to all of our boys. I pretty much left it up to DH, and it didn't seem like that big of a deal. I read both sides, but still when something does go wrong, it makes you sick that our little guys might be facing more trouble than necessary.

    Here's our deal:
One twin was born with hypospadias, so he wasn't eligible for a circ at birth. We were told the other twin didn't have hypaspadias, so he was a go on the circ. They were both in the NICU for the first week or two. One day, the OB came in, whisked him away, did the circ and returned him to the NICU. The NICU nurse freaked out when she saw his circ. She said, "Come here and look at this." She pointed out how red and swollen it was and that it was a badly performed circ. The OB who did it was very young and inexperienced, and it made me sick. The nurse tried to tell us that she thought it was a bad one and had the neonatal docs look at it. They are pretty defensive of one another, so they didn't make a big deal out of it and told us to wait for the swelling to go down. Then during the next few days, the nurses all started thinking that the circ-ed twin had hypaspadias also - and that would be a disaster.

Ugh. Luckily, it was just a bad circ that can be repaired. Nonetheless, here he is at 6 months having to undergo a reconstructive surgery with anesthesia that he wouldn't have to have done if we hadn't had him circ-ed.

I highly rec that you get the ped or a ped urologist to take a peek. It couldn't hurt, and it would put you at ease or give you the opportunity to get things remedied.
