O.k. I hope this is the forum to post this on, if not please let me know. My son has been circumcised and evidently the dr. didn't take off enough skin because there is still skin that covers alot of the head of his penis. Well today he had to have a ear re-check so I had the dr. take a look (another dr. performed the circumcision) and she said that yes more skin could have been taken off and that she personally wouldn't do anything if it were her son. My main concern is that I don't want him to have issues later on in life. She said that he will just have a little extra skin and that also many boys aren't even getting circumcised these days. He also has had adhesions that have come back several times, this is when the skin startes to adhere back on the head of the penis. He could have surgery for this but would need to go under anasthesia.

I don't know if I should just let it be or not.

There will be no long term effects other than just a little extra skin.

Thanks for all of your responses!

    Hi!

If it were me, I would just leave it be. I advocate for surgery only when it is absolutely necessary.

I had my son circumcised also and the skin adhered to the tip of his penis. My surgeon said that if it didn't correct itself he can fix it...I just pulled gently with every other diaper change or so and eventually it was OK. Oh and my son has a little extra skin there too - I think they'll be just fine!!

HTH & GL with your decision!

We actually decided to not circumsize our son at all, I think that is becoming more common then it use to be. If it were me, I would not risk a surgery for it - when he gets older if he wants to go through with surgery then I would consider it. iMHO.

I have one son who is circumcised & one who isn't and, honestly, I would probably just leave it alone. Why put him through it if it isn't necessary? If it is something that would cause a problem later on, I would do it, but if not, I wouldn't.

When I went to get my boys done they ended up only being able to do one of them. My other Ds has a buried penis. We went back again a month later and they still weren't able to do it. I would just leave it be but my Dh really wants him to be done too. So I guess we'll try again when he is a little older.
In your situation I would probably just leave it be.

Have you had a consult with the Pediatric Urologist??? We have ours on the 22nd. The adhesion is all the way around on one of our boys. This is such a tough decision.

    Good luck.

I agree with the pp- I would leave it be. I didn't have my boys circumsized- more and more parents are making the choice not to do the surgery so I think when my boys are older it won't be such a social issue- at least that's what I'm hoping! Good luck!

My son has a little extra skin but the pedi said it is a perfect circ. Taking off too much can cause problems later in life. He did have an adhesion once about a month ago but I now pull back his penis every diaper change and apply vasonline on it to prevent it from sticking again. Good luck with your decision.

I have one going under for a circ revision in 2 weeks. Believe me, it was a difficult decision for me (DH wanted it done when he was a month old!), but our Urologist said it's necessary, not cosmetic. His circ did NOT heal correctly, he's got twisting, extra skin, etc etc. My other DS has a pretty bad adhesion. We've loosened it a little, but it still has issues, so it's being evaluated by our Urologist for his thoughts. I won't put him through surgery unless the doc says he absolutely needs it. He gets some slight infections around it (from when it gets pulled apart) because he's kinda an 'innie', so who knows what the Urologist will say!

There was a huge, multi paged thread on 'circ revision' on the 1-4 forum. I was shocked at the amount of people who had issues with their DS's circs!!!!

This happened to us as well with DS2 it attached to the head of the penis all around. I was able to work it off and then I kept vaseline on it til it healed. He had extra skin, but now at 26 months it looks great. We decided against circ-ing the twins. So I have two boys that are and two boys that aren't. I would say leave it, but you have to go with peace. We decided with the twins that if they need it at a later date then we would do it cause they need vs. us just wanting it done for looks.
My sister's son also had a lot of skin compared to her two older boys, but her Pedi told it would look great by 18 months...and it did.

:hug99: We are going through exactly the same thing - with the same thoughts and concerns. I have no idea what I'm going to do, but I look forward to reading the responses you get. They have their 6 month appointment tomorrow, and I think we are going to decide what to do after that.

I can't speak for the OP, but I know for me, the concern isn't really circ v. no circ. It's that we already did a circ and the worry that he will be some weird in between.

Had similar issues with older ds and did the pull back at bath time… but decided against fixing it… he has asked why we did the twins and not him (though I’ve been told he looks cir by English friend who didn’t cir) and I told him I would leave it up to him if he wanted it fixed… he said no thank you…
GL that was a hard decision for us… dh wanted to I didnt

My two boys look so completely different. My older DS has almost no loose skin, and my younger DS has so much extra skin that it barely looks like he is circumsized. I asked my doctor about my younger DS and he said that he just has some extra skin, and to make sure I pull it back and clean around it since he has had a few adhesions. If I were you I would just leave it alone. I guess if it bothers my younger DS alot when he is older that he has some extra skin we will deal with it then. Good luck!!

Our first, we circumcised. They did not do the old school way, where you cut the skin all the way around. They used a new technique. My son had little pain, we didn’t have to put Vaseline on it. They told us to bathe him like normal and change him like normal, minus baby powder. He has absolutely NO SCAR. If the twins happen to be boys, we will be going to the same DR, to have the same type of circumcision done.

Personally if I was in the same position, I would probably leave it alone, unless its effecting him in a bad way.
