I have 4 month old boy/girl twins and I am thinking about trying CIO in the next month. I was wondering what other people's experience with this has been and if one twins crying prevented the other twin from falling asleep.
We are currently doing CIO for both bedtime and naptime. Right now we have them separated until they "get it" and then we will put them back together. We're on about Day 5, so I would imagine a few more nights and then back together they go!
We did it at about 5 months and found that at first, they seemed to keep each other awake at bedtime. We actually separated them for the first few nights and then moved them back together when they were both sound asleep. But after they got used to it, they would still cry a bit every night and one's crying never seemed to bother the other. Also, Amy would wake up and cry for a bottle every single night until 13 months, and Sarah always slept right through it.
I haven't had any issues with them waking each other up. Seems like if they are tired enough they will fall asleep and stay asleep through the whole CIO. I guess it's a matter of trial and error.
we seperated them for the first little while but then once they were going down more easily, more consistently we put them back together. now they usually sleep through each other's cries. GL!
I did CIO with Jake at 6 months. Emma slept through on her own at 3 months. They were right next to each other and Emma woke up the first night, but not the next two, which is all it took! GL!
Hi, We are in the process of doing CIO and i was worried about the same thing at first, whenever one of girls makes a peep we were straight in there so not to disturb her sister. In the end we decided to keep them together because they share a room and somewhere down the line there will be some crying so we thought why not go all out and let them get used to each others cries aswell as everything else. It is going so well!!! The first 2 nights were horrendous and i do think it was a shock to there system and that having each other there kept them going abit but now it is a different story, they sleep through each cries and sometimes talk each other to sleep, it's quite cute! This is our first week of CIO so i'm trying not to get too excited as you never know what tommorow brings but they have turned a HUGE corner and i'm so pleased we are doing this already! Wishing you lots of luck
CIO is not generally recommended for babies before the age of 6+ months. However, if your LOs have always slept together, then the chances are high that they will sleep through each other´s cries. Mine do. GL!

GL! i've seen this a number of times on here & i was just wondering where it's coming from - i know in HSHHC he says that CIO is fine at 4 months after the EDD but that's the only sleep book i've read. i know different doctors will say different things so i'm just wondering where 6 months comes from.

I read it in What to Expect the First Year where it says it´s best to wait until babies are closer to 6 months as most no longer require night feedings unless they were preemies. It also says a younger baby cries to communicate needs whereas an older baby cries for attention. I´ve also read it in other places but can´t think where off-hand - sorry!
